If you're using the fan shim, a case with at least some small airflow is going to be more help to it than a completely closed one. When I leave the top off the official case, I rarely see it go above 40°C for more than a couple seconds.

With the official case top on, it still heats up to 50-68°C eventually, but very slowly, which is still a win for the shim.

Literally any size you buy that's 8 GB or larger will do, though if you're wanting to format it as any kind of FAT for NOOBS, you can just grab your favorite partition editor and shrink it below 32GB so FAT32 will be an option. Unfortunately, any Raspbian before Buster isn't made to run on the Pi 4. If your Pi 3B+ had been running Buster, you could just pop it in to a 4 and it would work. Can confirm: using nothing but apt-get update & upgrade, the Pi 4 will now do 1080p60 YouTube videos in Chromium full screen- there's some occasional flicker or horizontal tearing, but it's otherwise smooth. (Monitor resolution was also set to 1080p60 at the time.)

Looking good so far.

I got lucky with my 4 GB one. On June 26, signed up for email notifications when any came back in stock at the four authorized resellers. July 2, Pimoroni suddenly had one, and it arrived in the mail by the 12th.

Hopefully others got lucky as well.
