Re: What about a keypress-enabled rescue micro-AP feature?

Ok, so tiggerhappy looks to be running on my copy of raspios light and the manpage says ... Triggerhappy is especially suited to hardware related switches like volume or wifi control ... So I guess I'd better learn how to use it. I have found a useful feature in systemd-networkd (...) Take a look: r...

Rather than write your own overlay you might want to investigate the gpio-key one.
That looks fantastic! I didn’t knew this existed.

Re: What about a keypress-enabled rescue micro-AP feature?

Interesting idea, @epoch. I built an simple "automatic AP" ( https://github.com/gitbls/autoap ) that uses wpa_supplicant and systemd-networkd (which has a nice built-in DHCP server) that you might find useful as a starting point. It comes up with wpa_supplicant in AP mode if it can't conn...

Re: What about a keypress-enabled rescue micro-AP feature?

With the current version of Raspios, and at least on a Pi 3B, I reckon the micro-AP unofficial feature can be made to work reliably. Without wishing to hijack the thread, can somebody please point me at some documentation somewhere as to *why* the AP-as-a-second-interface thing is considered 'unoff...

Re: What about a keypress-enabled rescue micro-AP feature?

In my experience, the shutdown part of the power button isn't a special case and can use any GPIO. The startup part is though and is specific to GPIO 3. That's probably because GPIO 3 has an external pull up and is next to a ground pin. My guess is that gpo-shutdown defaults to GPIO 3 so both funct...

What about a keypress-enabled rescue micro-AP feature?

I’ve been fiddling with the micro-AP capability of the built in wireless interfaces on Pi on and off for a while. The general idea is to make onboarding easier esp. for users running their Pi headless for the first time on a new network. Wireless credentials can be wrong or the user may not be able ...

Re: WIFI not loading

On Raspios Ethernet has priority over wireless by default.
If there is a default route configured on the Ethernet interface, internet access will go through Ethernet.

To swap priorities you can add to the end of file dhcpcd.conf:

Code: Select all

interface wlan0
metric 100
Then reboot and try again.

Re: Direct Ethernet connection fails if connected after boot

My idea is that dhcpcd or (god forbid) systemd-networkd are a better idea than ifupdown.
If you must insist on using the old stuff, take a look at ifplugd, that might react better to link up events.

Dual mode is not supported by the built-in interface.
If you want a client + an AP at the same time, get an extra USB adapter.
You will not be able to add the client to the bridge.
You can route between the bridge and the client.
Search the forums, there is a gazillion posts on the subject already.

Re: Looking for Simple, Cheap Raspberry Pi PLEX solution.

You said cheap, I suppose it means Pi4 and not 3 or 2 by now. Pi4 has the best price-performance ratio for sure. Plex by default performs transcoding on the server, a Pi 2 or a Pi 3 won't transcode. You can velcro an USB mobile drive to the standard Pi case, that will work about as well as a dedicat...

If think you want to give priority to the wireless interface, "to navigate".

Add to the end of /etc/dhcpcd.conf

Code: Select all

interface wlan0
metric 100

Which OS?
If Raspios, see dhcpcd-hooks (scripts), that could be an appropriate place.

Re: Zero wont connect: Multiple routers with the same name

Assuming you’re using the built in interface, your zero doesn’t receive 5GHz frequencies, it doesn’t “see” 5G APs.
Why specify anything in the first place?

Re: Internet connection via SSH (USB) stops working after a few reboots

169.254.x.x means DHCP is not working. The physical link appears to be working, otherwise you wouldn’t get an IP address at all. You can verify the machine is otherwise ok with something like “ssh pi@hostname.local”. The zeroconf .local name should be usable from recent Windows machines, from Linux ...

Re: Where is a service defined?

Loaded: loaded (/etc/init.d/pure-ftpd; generated) Pureftpd still ships with a system V init script (in /etc/init.d) What systemd does in this case is run a generator at boot and convert the script into a (theoretically) functionally equivalent service unit that you can find in /run or /tmp IIRC. Wh...

It might be the firewall then.
Docker controls it, mainly it redirects incoming traffic to docker0.

Will I be expecting too much to be able to print from my iPhone? Yes. The iphone will (hopefully) create the network for you but its apps will not try reaching for it. No printing from the iphone, it's a pure router in this case. Which brings the point, why the zero and double-NAT when the iPhone c...

NFS doesn't use a username and password to give access to files.

Are you sure the server uses NFS? Samba is an SMB/CIFS server, not NFS.
