Re: Punnet - a print at home cardboard case

Hi all Well done lordelph! (that brings back some memories) I wanted to include my 2 cents worth since there's obviously some very creative people here on the forum. http://www.e300.co/rpicase I've completed 2 designs with a window but also adjusted the base to allow for box cardboard to be inserted...

Re: Cut/Copy/Paste

Thanks for the long and short answer bredman The long answer sounds incredibly lengthy although I understand the method you suggested. One thing you pointed out which I find really strange is that although most Linux commands and programs sound cryptic I always appreciate the thought process behind ...

Re: Cut/Copy/Paste

Clarification: Are you talking about accessing the bash shell inside or outside of X? I.e., are you running in a virtual console or in a "Terminal" window in the GUI? Basically, it boils down to this: If you are inside X, then it should work (and thus debugging it is just in the category of getting...

Re: Practice

This is just my 2-cents worth and I may be wrong but I remember seeing a VM of the RPi which can be downloaded from element17's website: http://www.element14.com/community/grou ... loadcenter I'm assuming that VM is "virtual machine" and doesn't stand for something else.

Cut/Copy/Paste

Hi everyone, I thought I'd start a new thread for this simple question: When I'm at the CLI on Debian I needed to copy a large command which I've dumped via a network drive into a text file. $ nano dump.txt shows the contents of the file in nano 2.2.4 editor. I've tried holding down shift while usin...

Re: A little help or insparation

Thanks AndrewS I'm all right for toes at the moment but I'll keep going with soggy stumps until I learn! Your explanation was not too long, in-fact you can't throw enough info my way! The explanation was very enlightening, I now understand a little more regarding the state of firmware version contro...

oh.. from those instructions on the video.. don't enable the swap.. it slows the machine down. If' you've already done it, just comment the swap line out if the file /etc/fstab I haven't done anything yet with this (for starters it took ages to backup my 16Gb SD image and secondly I'm trying not to...

Hi Dal, What amazing progress you have made!!! Linux tends to do this to people. Thank you but I'm technically still walking around bumping into walls at this stage  I'm just backing up my SD image so I don't loose all of my work and then I'll be trying the xbmc install suggested here http://w...

Re: A little help or insparation

Hi I've managed to: Update and upgrade Debian Setup a new Hostname Install and setup Samba On my windows network map it shows the public share folder as having a maximum quota of 1.52Gb. Since I'm using a 16Gb card how would I increase the public share quota size to say 10Gb? I've googled this but e...

Awesome interactive diagram AndrewS! I'm almost gutted that I'll never need to use it but I'm sure it will be very helpful for those who play on a component level. Well done ;)

Re: A little help or insparation

The SD image contains three partitions, only the first will be recognized by windows. The others are formats that are extensively used by Linux - so in a linux machines you will be able to read them. They are more efficient than FAT or NTFS, and do not have the patent or copyright issues you find w...

That was the first thing I tried was to use the sudo ap-get update and since this was a a fresh copy of Debian copied across today I can't say it will make much difference. When I said I downloaded the Debian release I meant to ARMel version and not the regular version as suggested by abishur earlie...

Not really sure how to respond to that Joe? :? Was there something I've wrote that offends or has confused you? Re: A little help or insparation

For the record I did not say the above "but you wont find the top-end games available for Linux." (it appears there's a formatting/bb error with the quote above) I know software isn't readily available for Linux compared to Windows but quite a few games seem to support most OS. I remember playing My...
