Re: Tab HDMI input

So does it means there is no way we can use the display of a tab or a mp4 player (through its hdmi) as a display for Raspberry Pi ?

Re: Tab HDMI input

Is there any way to make out what the HDMI port in any device is made for ? Input or Output ?
TV is a display device but it is HDMI port receives input but a Tab or MP4 player also has a display but mostly their HDMI port is made for output.

Tab HDMI input

Is it possible to attach a Raspberry Pi to any of those Tabs with a HDMI port ?
How can we make out if any devise having an HDMI port is programmed for data input or output ?
A TV takes input but a Tab / Mp4 player might be only for output.

Buying Pi in India

Placed order with RS counterpart in India but had to cancel order due to extremely poor and careless service.
Hope some day Raspberry Pi is sold in India through better online sellers like Flipkart.
Till then I will make my elderly students work on my old RPi B Ver 1.

Apart from Midori which other browser works well (fast) with RPi ?
I tried chromium but it is too slow.
How about other Mozilla clones ?

After Uncommenting hdmi_drive=2 I can play mp3 through Alsa player but not through VLC. There is no sound output. If I play mp4 through VLC, there is no video or audio output. sudo nano /etc/modules Does it contain a line: snd-bcm2835 ? If not, add it, save the changes and reboot. If this is missin...

Re: Default Word Processor?

Just installed focuswriter. And immediately after trying removed it again... It took over my whole screen with no menus, help or anything visible but a blinking cursor. and I had to use CTRL-ALT-DEL to get rid of it. focuswrite is always full screen and by default you do not see any menu. It is mad...

Re: Sound through HDMI

mmh ... one of the first things I deinstalled again, was Pulse audio. It was reported to break things sometimes, but that was quite a while ago. I've never had any problems with audio output from VLC, but cannot test the Raspbian version now, as I'm using a self compiled version with HW acceleratio...

As far as I understood, you already got sound, but not from VLC. Open the VLC settings, go to audio and select bcm2835 ALSA.
I tried that but it did not work

I installed Pulse audio and alsa.
In Pulse audio volume control, in the Output devices tab, it displays : bcm2835 ALSA Analog Stereo and in Port it show ONLY analog output.

Installed Raspbian and RASPBMC through NOOBs.
Sound works fine out of the box in RaspBMC but not in Raspbian.
Any suggestion ?

Re: Buying Pi in India

Thanks for the links.

Element 14's site simply mentions some other links, where one could buy Pi (I find most of them very unreliable).
RS's site mentions "Temporarily out of stock in the UK"

Is there any other option ?

Re: SD Card Format tool

Can I use Gparted ? Yes, it works very well to format and partition also SD cards used in the PI. And instead of using a console tool like "dd" to copy a downloaded Raspberry OS raw image file to a SD card, I find a GUI tool much more handy, like for example Redhat's "palimpsest". It's included in ...

Virtual RAM

These days I started teaching basic computing to some elderly and introduced RPi to them.
I do not know why, though my RPi is the V1.0 B, but found it to be running way slower than I earlier had experienced.
So I thought of using SWAP to 'increase' the RAM. But seems it is not a good solution.
