Re: My Pi 2 keeps getting slower. Help!
I checked swap this weekend, and Youtube really seems to blow it on swap in Chromium. 16.0 MB as soon as I get to the web page! I think what was happening is I was using Chromium, closed Chromium, but the swap stayed in usage, so my computer acted laggy and slow until I shut it down and rebooted. -...

Re: Does VPN really help for Internet Privacy?
There are three pieces that need to work: - quantum memory (storage of qubits) - quantum communication (transmission of qubits) - quantum computing (manipulation of qubits) Delving into the memory and communication parts of the puzzle gives more insight than just a general look at "quantum comp...

Re: Does VPN really help for Internet Privacy?
Ronaldlees, I can't make out what you mean to say in the above post. Except, you are not a physicist, you do not know what quantum computing capabilities any companies may have actually is, and you cannot point us to anything that might back your assertion that " privacy is toast" because...

Re: Position Triangulation
Well, GPS itself is pretty inaccurate at this level. When dealing with ranges of a few feet, it's gonna be unpredictable. That's probably why the stores rely on OpenCV style facial recognition, IR photon emitters, and such, rather than something like GPS, which most folks would have in their cell ph...

Re: Does VPN really help for Internet Privacy?
However; I think quantum computers are now in use by multiple big entities around the world, and (from them anyway) - privacy is toast. What's your source of information for that assertion? Practical quantum computers are still a pipe dream, regardless of IBM's current public demonstration. If Cont...

Re: Position Triangulation
You could do as the department stores do when they zero in on a customer. Use OpenCV, and paint each car a different bright color (the department stores use facial recognition, but that's not needed here). Then program your OpenCV to recognize the bright color and register a position. You might be a...

I tried to delete the topic but you replied faster than I could get to it. Re: Reduce SD Card Partition for backup
I don't think partition shrinking is in the cards. The shrinker would need to move all of your files within the partition, before it could shrink. I think Windows is equipped to do this, but most OSS systems probably not. There are utilities to shrink *file systems* in LInux, but I haven't used them...

6) After all that you are connected, through a VPN, to the web site of your choice. Say, raspberrypi.org. That's great and all but said website then blows all your cover by immediately shouting to the world, google analytics, facebook, gravatar, etc that you have connected, when and for how long an...

It looks like your image was set up to use wpa_supplicant. So, you can run wpa_supplicant in manual mode with the "-DD" (or is that -dd?) switch to enable debugging, and maybe see what's wrong. I'd guess your wpa_supplicant.conf is incorrect.

Re: Does VPN really help for Internet Privacy?
It depends who you are most worried about. IMO, if you are worried about the fellow patrons at a coffee shop, then yes - it probably adds quite a bit of privacy. If you are worried about governmental agencies, then in some situations your privacy could be lower. This is because, while the VPN shield...

Re: Integrating ID with single-chip radar
I'm not an expert in radar, so this is a hobbyist's opinion, powered by being a boating/marine enthusiasts and ham radio guy. The ideas I'm tossing out here are probably worth what you paid for them ($0) :-) But, here goes anyway ... The earlier automotive range finding chip radars (probably the onl...

Re: finding older model RPi on the used market
I find it odd that someone would balk at paying $35 for a Pi2B, Pi3B, or Pi3B+, or even $20 for an A+ when the original kickstarter for Raspberry Shake was over $100, and the Raspberry Boom is more like $200. If you can afford the Raspberry Shake, the Pi to go with it shouldn't be an issue. I guess...

Re: Which browser do you use ?
My Pi2 boards seem too sluggish when using anything other than Netsurf, so that's what I use. Once in a while, if I need javascript, I use the built in Rasbian browser (can't remember its name). It gets the job done, but not blisteringly quickly. On the faster boards, I use Vivaldi (excellent and sp...

Re: USB Ethernet adapters
Welcome to the RPi forums! It should be the same as with any other ethernet adapter, i.e. something like: Note that the Pi's built-in adapter is usually ue0 (usb ethernet adapter 0). So for a temporary command line setup, maybe you could use: ifconfig ue1 inet 192.168.1.16 netmask 255.255.255.0 broa...

Re: 4-20mA transducer and Receiver control by IOT based application
I used to work with that kind of stuff a zillion years ago. I'm not (especially 30 years later) an expert in this field, so consult the web or an expert friend for a final opinion. Anyway, here's a hobbyist's opinion: I think you need to know the sum of all the voltage drops in your loop, and have a...

Re: finding older model RPi on the used market
I think part of it is that a large number of projects (including some commercial) use the Pi2 version 1 with the original SoC, and don't want to upgrade software for the newer boards and SoC (version 2). I'm in that camp myself, because I have a special build for the Cirrus audio board. So, occasion...

Re: Integrating ID with single-chip radar
How difficult is it to detect radar signals? They're very short pulses, and detection may not be cheap enough. So, I'd think about light wavelengths instead. How many animals? How big are they? If they wore flags in an assortment of colors, you could use an Opencv cam and some software to pick them ...

Re: rtl_fm SDR dongle Scanner
The reason I asked about the squelch level is because in the case of FM - the squelch often breaks open for a short bit when a weaker carrier starts, but then it closes again. So, you'd move the squelch around to see if that helps, i.e. not set to 70, but try 20,30,40,50,60,70,80,90. The break-open ...

Re: nRF24L01 - GPIO
The nRF2401L is not really WiFi. It doesn't do frequency hopping or any spread spectrum. Anyway - the antenna probably cannot be connected with ribbon cable - it would be inefficient. Most of the cables found (for example, on Amazon) for this purpose are fairly high loss (RG174, RG58, etc). There ar...

Yeah - also the first machine I saw and played in early seventies 72? or there abouts. I've never played a game on the Pi. Way too pragmatic these days.
