You really oughta try these instructions: http://elinux.org/RPi_VNC_Server. They worked wonders for me with setting up tightvncserver, and now I can connect to my Raspi through RealVNC from my Mac and from Android device.

Out of curiosity, do you need to run the full Android Studio IDE on Raspberry Pi? I imagine it would be slow. You can instead use commandline tools from Android SDK and Gradle to build and test your projects...

You might also need sudo for the gzip (I don't know Mint, doesn't it have gunzip or zcat?), depending on the read permissions on the file.
Awesome answer. It is easy to miss the omitted `sudo` in the dd part after the pipe.

cant ssh into rpi (or dont know how to) so how do i copy the output of your input? Pull the card out and put it into a PC, edit cmdline.txt in the boot partition (the only one you'll see in windows) and add the foolowing to the end: init=/bin/sh That will boot you into a root shell with no password...

This happened to me after I corrupted the /boot/cmdline.txt file. Unfortunately, there is nothing you can do other than completely reinstall the OS from SSD card.
