I tried "sudo apt-get remove lx*" but this generated a massive list of things to remove that apt-get deemed dangerous to remove (a message I've never seen before). This list included things like apt and dpkg, which surely I don't want to remove? Just a warning for anyone reading this.

You possibly already know this, and I know it's not directly answering your question, but Arch Linux doesn't come with a GUI, so there's no need to uninstall it.

I find IceWM to run with a nice mix of speed, functionality and familiarity. I think you can just use sudo apt-get install icewm, and then use gdm or slim to pick it.

The "Execute" command should read
