Re: Dear Mr. Raspi ,

That depends how you look at it of course. But here is a working version, it's newer than the the RPiOS versions. Over at the SonicPi website/forum. https://in-thread.sonic-pi.net/t/v3-2-2-for-raspberry-pi-os-now-available/3976 This release replaces the existing v3.1 release of Sonic Pi which ships...

Re: Sonic - Pi .... No sound with new OS ....

Sonic-Pi installs OK on the new Pi OS but there is no sound output . The people at Sonic-Pi have came up with a .deb file version that puts out sound, but has problems with the GUI. I would like to use the version available via apt-install , but know how to connect it's sound to the analog out on a ...

Basic 256 appears to be a completely new language. It has hashes which - while handy - are a whole other thing to classic Basic
It does have some slight difference from classic BASIC ....
But not much .... BBC BASIC is purer in that context .

Re: TinyBASIC ONE

Is that BASIC dialect number 256 ? If I were to program in BASIC, I would start with BBC BASIC which has long history with ARM/Acorn and is well maintained. https://www.raspberrypi.org/forums/viewtopic.php?t=238187 BBC BASIC works well on RPi too . BASIC 256 is somewhat handier to install and run ....

I was hoping not to have to learn a totally new language

Though I’m not a great Basic programmer either, I do have experience on the Commodore 64 as well as MS Dos
Try

Code: Select all

sudo apt install basic256

Re: TinyBASIC ONE

I was hoping not to have to learn a totally new language That's not a good argument. Python3 is, generally, a much better language to learn than fiddling about trying to get a BASIC interpreter installed and usable. Python3 is ugly but it's certainly not as ugly as BASIC. Python3 has the added bene...

Yes, the keyboard handling is broken when dosbox is run outside of the GUI. It does not seem to understand that Linux numbers the keys starting with Esc=1, while Xorg numbers from Esc=9. It depends on how you want to send your midi messages . Timidity is a simple sequencer with sound fonts included . https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/TiMidity%2B%2B sudo apt install timidity -y To start: timidity -iA Then you need to be able to send messages . Grab another SD Card and install Raspbian Buster with Raspberry Pi Desktop and then you can ascertain that the "Volume Applet" does work ;)
Thank You .
I have that .
A few things I don't like , hence the experimentation .
May not be able to do better though .
