Re: Powering Pi Zero with AA batteries

Hi all I'm looking for a way to power a Pi zero using 4 AA batteries for a project and am seeking some advice on the hardware side of things. My main issue is how to regulate the 6v output to 5v in a reliable way throughout the discharge cycle but also secondary to this I need it to be as clean a s...

Re: Is it possible to access USB Web-Cam is this way?

Hi and good day. I would like to ask, is it possible for us to access the USB Connected Web-Cam in Raspberry Pi 3 B+ by using Windows. Well, what I mean is not by using VNC, Web Stream using IP or anything the display the Desktop GUI of Raspbian, but directly access the USB Web-Cam. For example, I ...

Re: OpenWRT On Raspberry Pi 4

As far as I can tell there is no OpenWRT release for the Pi 4. Not even a "beta" snapshot or whatever. See the empty space in the Pi 4 row of the table here: https://openwrt.org/toh/raspberry_pi_foundation/raspberry_pi#installation Unless a Pi 3 build happens to run on it. In which case the image f...

Thanks for the tip, guys. But still I will not find any detailed instructions for installation. There are wiki instructions for flashing using linux, and it says to use Win32DiskImager for windows. https://openwrt.org/toh/raspberry_pi_foundation/raspberry_pi#installation You will need to unzip the ...

I would like to convert my DVD movies to MP4. VLC does not work well in part due to sound delay on videos. Does anyone have any recommendations!? Re: experience with a power bank that works as UPS for RPi4 ??

TalentCell makes a line of USB/12v powerbanks with a mechanical power switch. Not sure if they have the output to run a Pi4 at load, but manufacture says they don't have the AC to DC switch over blip.

Thinking of building a Pi for someone. Has anyone worked out making the on/off switch be on the case rather than on the power cable? Parts list? Images? Suggestions? The Argon40 cases have a fan, additional circuitry and soft power button. I personally don't own one but here's a good review describ...

Definitely the same setup. I didn't have a micro cable for my Pi4 when I set it up as a headless network server. Though I did use a USB serial to console cable and that worked the same as Pi3 and earlier. Guide here: https://learn.adafruit.com/adafruits-raspberry-pi-lesson-5-using-a-console-cable/co...

I think it's less about Foundation moving away from HAT boards but more about critical mass of the ecosystem. When the Pi first released they had to make their own HAT boards to demonstrate there was a market demand and inspire "what_is_possible?". Fast forward to today and there are dozens of compa...

Re: Network data usage limiter

You may have to set the pi up as the router and/or an access point to capture and control all data. I would be more tempted to use a real router with DD-WRT or OpenWRT and use the pi as the web server and issue instructions via ssh / telnet to the router based on the data you input If the number of...

Re: How much RAM for Rpi4 as HTPC

For video playback, 1GB of ram isn't the bottleneck, cpu / hardware video acceleration is. For the Pi 4 I believe acceleration drivers are currently in beta state but will improve in time. Still if you even think you may want to experiment other than HTPC I would consider the 2GB or 4GB model.

I don't think you can find a Pi specific UPS solution at that capacity or price. It's a total crap shoot trying to find a USB bank that doesn't power dip between switching to charging. It is possible to use super capacitors to maintain power for the switch over, but the added cost of materials and e...
