I'm getting exactly the same error on 4.4.8 on Raspberry Pi 3. Have you overcome the issue anyhow? It'd be great to hear if you did.
I did not.

Re: Doing CAN using mcp2510

have you compiled DT overlay? have you enabled it in config.txt? Yes. Yes mcp2510@0 { reg = <0x0>; interrupts = <0x19 0x2>; pinctrl-0 = <0x1>; compatible = "microchip,mcp2510"; clocks = <0x2>; spi-max-frequency = <0x989680>; phandle = <0x39>; pinctrl-names = "default"; linux,phandle = <0x39>; inter...

Doing CAN using mcp2510

Hi I'm trying to play with can controller using mcp2510 chip. I created the overlay for this chip (based on mcp2515): /* * Device tree overlay for mcp251x/can0 on spi0.0 */ /dts-v1/; /plugin/; / { compatible = "brcm,bcm2835", "brcm,bcm2836", "brcm,bcm2708", "brcm,bcm2709"; /* disable spi-dev for spi...

Code: Select all

That is working. Thank you for your help.

Re: Failed to load overlay

I've had a look at the kernel source and I can't see how the *.dts files get compiled to *.dtbo (the Makefiles all create *.dtb files). You'll need to ask Phil Elwell how that piece works. For the 4.5.y there is a arch/arm/boot/dts/overlays/Makefile that have it: (...) dtbo-$(RPI_DT_OVERLAYS) += ad...

DougieLawson wrote:Have you got the latest dtc compiler?
I've used the one that arch linux provides. That will be:

Code: Select all

$ dtc --version
Version: DTC 1.4.1
In kernel dtc is:

Code: Select all

$ ./scripts/dtc/dtc --version
Version: DTC 1.4.1-g9d3649bd-dirty

Re: Failed to load overlay

So the problem was the lack of dtbo files in /boot/overlays.
But how to generate them when using dtc out of linux kernel tree (when using custom made overlays)?
It was working last time only with dtb file.

Failed to load overlay

Hello All! I have problem with disabling spidev on spi0. I'm working on my custom driver that need spi, so I needed to disable spidev on spi0. I wrote my custom DT overlay few days ago and it was working just fine. Yesterday the overlay stops working. I've tried some in tree overlays and the same pr...
