Official case not tall enough for GPIO ribbon cable

Hi, I got a red/white official case for my RPi 2, and I expected I would be able to route the ribbon cable for my external breadboard out through the top. But the case edge is right on top of the ribbon connector, and the fit is too short for it to snap in place. It seems kind of obvious that people...

Re: Raspbian ethernet fail in X

Something is wrong Raspbian wheezy has never failed me on the LAN port yet. Open a console window and try the following: ifdown eth0 ifup eth0 Richard S. While this dropout is occurring, log messages are being written indicating that the smsc95xx (USB ethernet) can't read some of its registers (the...

Raspbian ethernet fail in X

Is anyone else still having the built-in USB ethernet fail while in X? The command line is fine, but when I start up an X session, the Ethernet drops out every time. It comes right back when the X session shuts down on logout. This is getting rather frustrating... why can't the Pi seem to work with ...

Re: Hub - No Solution Works..

Please forgive my ignorance if this is a dumb question, but... is there such a thing as a data-only USB cable? That is, could one use a cable that provides no connection at all to the VCC line, and would this solve the hub power problem?

Just thinking out loud, so to speak...

Re: [debian] No keyboard/mouse after startx

@piglet: I have an AmazonBasics USB wart powering the Pi--it says it's rated for 2.0 amps at 5V. The mouse, keyboard, and USB disk are all plugged into a self-powered hub that has two ports rated for iPad charging, so it has plenty of juice available. The Pi is completely stable in text (console) mo...

Re: [debian] No keyboard/mouse after startx

I have this same problem, or at least I had the same problem. I can use the keyboard just fine in console mode, and after starting X ("startx"), I got the normal desktop. But neither the keyboard nor the mouse would work in X--I had to kill the X process via ssh. Running rpi-update doesn't affect th...

Re: VAX/VMS on RaspberryPi

You can find the OpenVMS Hobbyist program here: http://www.openvms.org/pages.php?page=Hobbyist . They require you to be a member of a user group, so you'll have to search around a bit. You can now download the required images, which is a real help as you used to have to buy the CD for $30. When you ...

VAX/VMS on RaspberryPi

Hi everyone, I just received my Pi yesterday, and I've managed to get an emulated VAX up and running to the point where I can telnet into it and actually do things. I used the simh package, which I've used before, and the software from the DEC/Compaq/HP hobbyist program. The VAX runs at a reasonable...

Re: Anyone in the US get a ship date from Newark (Element/14

I'm happy to report my Pi arrived on schedule with the original estimate sent by Newark when they shipped it last Tuesday. Apparently the UPS tracking number was simply the wrong one. It boots fine, attached to an LCD monitor via an HDMI->DVI connector. I'm using an Amazon Basics USB power wart, whi...

@hazard: Bizarrely enough, with all this hoopla with UPS, I noticed that the invoice shown to me by the Newark website states that my Pi was shipped by USPS Priority Mail. At this point, the truth is becoming murkier by the second.

Sorry, that should be "UPS got" rather than "UPS shows got". Speeding is a crime in typing as well as driving.

Re: Anyone in the US get a ship date from Newark (Element/14

I called Newark this morning, and a very nice customer support person looked at my order and said she'd have to research it and call me back. She didn't seem to know that Spartanburg is right next door (relatively speaking) to Newark's warehouse in Gaffney, SC, which is where I would venture to gues...

OK, so I'm rejoining the group of you here whose status=Massively Frustrated. I've used 'joe' for the last 10 years at least. It's an editor, not an "integrated development environment", ...

Got my shipping confirmation (with UPS tracking number) and invoice confirmation (??) this morning. Ordered 3/1 at 6:53am (#171085). My ship date had bounced around from today to the 12th to the 18th and back to the 12th (yesterday) before it moved to Completed today.

I have never needed to install smbfs--just samba. (They aren't joined at the hip, in other words.) :) Also, you might look into exploring the aptitude tool--it's what I use for most of my package management.

It's a mighty funny kind of queue they're using... I ordered mid-morning on 1st March (UTC-8), order #171085, and the order is still listed as back ordered, with 18 June as ship date.
