Re: SD Card Corruption

Quite a few of us are running continuos data logging on weather stations, and we 've found that SD Cards have a limited number of write / rewite cycles, since we were writing and logging data every few minutes, they seemed to corupt the file systems at regular intervals (as opposed to irregular inte...

Re: sudo and .bashrc not running

OK, well that %$%^$%^"%^ it! Put the SD card in another pi with screen and keyboard, booted up and now can't login either directly or via ssh, put it back into original pi and same problem - can't login. I'll try the recovery boot option, fortunately I ftp the 'user files over regularly so it's not ...

Re: sudo and .bashrc not running

When you are logged in with putty what does whoami show? The permissions of .bashrc are wrong in that the file should be owned by pi rather than root. The only way you can correct ownership is by sudo or logging in as root. What does sudo chown pi:pi .bashrc say? [email protected]:~$ whoami pi [email protected]...

Re: sudo and .bashrc not running

Seeing as su and sudo aren't working, I tried pkexec: [email protected]:/usr/lib$ pkexec sudo ls ==== AUTHENTICATING FOR org.freedesktop.policykit.exec === Authentication is needed to run `/usr/bin/sudo' as the super user Authenticating as: ,,, (pi) Password: ==== AUTHENTICATION COMPLETE === sudo: /usr...

Re: sudo and .bashrc not running

You could try booting into safe mode http://www.raspberrypi.org/phpBB3/viewtopic.php?p=129413 Note you can use a paperclip instead of a jumper if you are careful. Then make /home/pi/.bashrc executable chmod +x /home/pi/.bashrc Only challenge, I guess that won't work with SSH / Putty? And it is boot...

Re: sudo and .bashrc not running

logging in as pi via putty the 'root' user has no password and to login via ssh/putty it has to have one don't really want to set one as that messes up other stuff and seeing as sudo isn't working, I can't use sudo passwd root the whole idea of the Pi user is that you never have to log in as root. sudo and .bashrc not running

Any ideas? I get this at log-in via putty: -bash: /home/pi/.bashrc: Permission denied If I try to run applications using sudo I get messages like: sudo: /usr/lib/sudo/sudoers.so: No such file or directory sudo: fatal error, unable to load plugins It seems like the permissions for .bashrc have got me...

We've got a range of things going on around this, the best 'of the shelf' product by a long way (functionaility and value) is this: http://www.microgenerationpowermanager.com/ For DIY, then this : http://openenergymonitor.org/emon/ and using the Pi as the emoncms: http://openenergymonitor.org/emon/e...

Re: DHT Humidity Sensing - Raspberry Pi with Google Docs log

Problem is apparently the speed of access via python hence the C application, According to Adafruit: Since the DHT sensors use a low-level "Manchester-esque" timing protocol to send data, we need to be able to read the pin they are connected to at very high speeds. The python libraries aren't fast e...

Re: Smart Home Energy Monitor

Working on it! The currentcost monitors though are well known to be incredibly inaccurate (10% + errors) Better to look through http://www.openenergymonitor.org and build something from there, I'm currently building my emonTX's and then plan to run the Pi as emonBase and emonCMS :) The emonTX can al...

Re: DHT Humidity Sensing - Raspberry Pi with Google Docs log

OK so there's a bug in the C codeing :) I wrote a litlle python routine to set the pin high and low, and if i run that in between trying to run the C routing, it gives me the reading everytime! So £80 spent on an oscilloscope .... - Lesson learnt! I'll spend some time over the weekend finding out ju...

Re: DHT Humidity Sensing - Raspberry Pi with Google Docs log

OK, got a scope - DSO Nano V2 , uprgraded to BenF 3.64 And the scope works just fine. I can connect the probe leads to the data and grnd, What settings should I use on the scope (TD, TriggerAuto / Scan, etc) and what am I looking for? Also got a couple more DHT22's which turned out to be RHT03's - a...

Yep have got a pull up resistor installed, no access to a a scope (got a FLUKE multi-tester :) )

Have tried different pins, same answer - could it be the DHT22 ?

Scope arriving tomorrow - ho to use it?

hi adafruit, I'm stuggling to get the code working :) sourced my adafruit parts from the UK (skpang) code appeared to install fine. I can get my pi to talk happily to a BMP085 and have used the skpang traffic lights program, so i know that generally it can communicate fine.. here's what i get: [email protected]...

Re: SOLAR PV CONTROLLOR FOR HOT WATER IMMERSION

You're right the PI would be a great solution, ideally it should be a whole house monitoring system, and then a proportional control system (so that you don't import any leccy :) ) . I posted a comprehensive analysis of why proportional is better that any other method here: http://www.electriciansfo...

Re: Solar PV Controller for hot water immersion

We've found that all the 'commercially' available monitoring systems, wattson, currentcost etc are not accurate enough when analysing with PV, as you need to monitor voltage and phase angle as well, hence the openmonitor project. By adding voltage and phase angle you can then asscertain direction of...
