I have found what I believe is a bug in the current Jesse build for Raspberry Pi 2 B+ and Raspberry Pi 3 using the new GPIO format relating to Scratch 1.4. Unfortunately SoSLUG has had to pull out of the venue at Chalkwell Parks Village Green in Leigh on Sea Essex. The venue is still a great place to spend the day from 11am till 9pm Saturday 30th July. But as a result of lack of services there will be no Raspberry PI demonstrations or Presentations

If you are using the Debian image then X server should be ready to go just type this at the the command line after you logged in

startx

this should take you to run X and lxde desktop

II don't have my Raspberry Pi worst luck so may not have all the facts, but that as I understand it is all you need.

If this is the only drive and partition all of it has been formatted as a ext3 which as I understand the Raspberry Pi using the SD Card cannot boot from you need a windows 95 partition whith which to boot before using linux. You need to obtain the debian image from forum downloads then use dd or win...

Try to list the contents with this

sudo fdisk -l

enter password

This lists all attached storage devices and tables the formats of each drive and partition.

a) sudo halt

add your own password when asked

b) sudo shutdown -h now

Shutting down with the -r means reboot instead of -h
