Re: STICKY: libmysqlclient18 has no installation candidate

Thank you. I think we've now got a "sticky" thread that explains how to make php5 work and how to do it properly with php7. I couldn't find the 'sticky' thread, if you know where it is I'd be most grateful for a link. A while ago whilst porting my existing project which used php5 from Jessie to Str...

Re: Unable to install mysql

Now the stretch defaults to a mariadb database, I'm not sure that php5 is ever going to work. I imported my jessie database with mysqldump and then had to use mysql_upgrade on it to stop the tables showing as 'corrupted'. Having done that I removed php5 and installed php7.0. I also changed all other...

Re: Raspbian Stretch Headless Setup Procedure

I've just tried to upgrade my jessie pizerowifi board running jessie lite to stretch with no initial success. I followed the procedure outlined by @Rattus in the "Stretch has arrived" thread (1st page) can you upgrade from jessie to stretch ... yes though it would probably be quicker to download and...

Naturally I had read the release notes but they didn't explain to me why the release was so sudden and urgent with only two changed features.

Re: New Image release 2017-07-05

I also assume that it must fix something important but I couldn't find any change from the previous kernel. I had done an update and dist-upgrade just before and after the last release, which took the kernel from 4.9.28 to 4.9.35. I can't find anything in RPI's git site which sheds any light on the ...

Following latest download availability appearing a couple of days ago, I sudo apt-get update and ..dist-upgraded my Xero W.
With the latest 4.9 kernel and firmware, the Zero W's led does now flash ten times on power down

Re: Trouble with headless Kodi under jessie

I have the video side working but is there anything I can configure to enable audio? I realise that RealVNC doesn't support audio so I don't mind if the sound comes through the headphone socket on the Pi. I have tested that sound does come through the socket when I run RealVNC and start up a BBC new...

Re: Trouble with headless Kodi under jessie

Hi, This sounds like a known issue with RealVNC when starting Kodi from the desktop (see https://github.com/RealVNC/raspi-preview/issues/2). However, keyboard input will work if Kodi is started directly from the console. To do this, you can either set your machine to boot to console and reboot, or ...

Re: Trouble with headless Kodi under jessie

. In RealVNC you could try the DIRECT CAPTURE mode: https://www.raspberrypi.org/blog/get-back-to-my-pi-from-anywhere-with-vnc-connect/ Enabling the Direct Capture certainly fixed the initial display, thank you. The problem I have now is that although the mouse moves, Kodi will not take any input fr...

Trouble with headless Kodi under jessie(SOLVED)

I have downloaded this month's Jessie and put it on my Pi2. I have enabled ssh, set GPU memory to 192, enabled realvnc and set hdmi_force_hotplug=1 in config.txt. I have installed Kodi with apt-get. I connect to the Pi with VNC Viewer from my PC. I see the option 'Kodi Media Center' in the GUI dropd...

It would be a bit tricky to connect a Zero Wireless Pi to the router with an Ethernet cable.

The Pi Zero's single LED and the GPU

Would I be correct in assuming that the Zero's single LED is entirely under the control of the GPU and the code for that is not open source? I do vaguely remember changing the state of the first model Pi's ACT LED by changing some kernel code but that Pi has many LEDs and at least one of them was co...

Re: Compiling based on a .config from a PiZero W

Thank you for your help. I had built with bcmrpi_defconfig successfully. I thought that taking an existing config from a running Zero W would produce a smaller load that didn't include drivers etc that it would never need. I was obviously wrong, so thanks once again.

Compiling based on a .config from a PiZero W

I am trying to cross compile the latest kernel (4.9) obtained from git and base it on the .config from my running PiZero W. I can successfully build the kernel if I base it on the bcmrpi_defconfig. If I try and use the .config from the Zero W, which I obtained with sudo modprobe configs and unzippin...

Re: Best WIFI Dongle

My main criterion for selecting a dongle is price, rather than performance, so I have gone for cheap e-bay items. The search term I used was RTL8188CUS . These have come from the far east and cost less than £2. They have always worked out of the box for me.

Re: Power off on the PiZero W

I was rather hoping for an authoritative reply to this question from a Foundation member . When a question asking why the LED didn't light at all for the Zero W was asked, the reply in the manner of 'just wait a bit, we'll fix it soon' arrived fairly quickly. I'm now left wondering whether the absen...

Re: Power off on the PiZero W

The PiZ PiZC and PiZW only have one LED so it's different to all others. . My PiZero (not wireless model) does flash its single LED on power down. That's why I was perplexed and slightly miffed that the ZeroW doesn't flash. It's always reassuring to get an ACK for a command and the ZeroW doesn't se...

LED flashes on Power off on the PiZero W [solved]

I recently bought a Zero W. It works well but I have noticed that when it is powered down the LED does not make the 10 flashes that other Pis do. I did comment on this in another thread which was concerned with the fact that initially the LED didn't light up at all on the W but is now fixed. I'd hop...

Re: Wlan Dongle for Raspberry Pi2 B - Which one should I use

I've bought a few nano adapters via eBay. The search term I used was RTL8188CUS and a few sellers from the far east sold them for about £1.70. They all worked out of the box. The only snag with this cheap approach was the delivery time being over a week.

In order to take it right back to basics, I downloaded the March 2nd jessie-lite img, enabled ssh, changed the password and tried "sudo shutdown -P -h now" as usual. I can see that no flashing of the LED occurs to confirm the end of power down. Sadly I suppose that all I can do now is wait 20 second...

The ACT LED does now light after booting a Zero W but the 10 flashes to confirm that power down is complete still doesn't work.

You'll have to wait for the next release where the W dtb is fixed. Won't be long. Next couple of days. Being tested as we speak. (Or, if you are desperate, sudo rpi-update will get it, along with lots of other stuff that is not guaranteed to work) Thanks for the information. I have copied my existi...
