Re: What causes this?

I found a cure, just add

Code: Select all

* * * * * /usr/bin/touch /mnt/win/pi
to your crontab, and no more log spamming occurs.
It creates/recreates a 0 byte file on the windows share every minute and prevents the timeout.

I've tried 3 different sdcards and they all work the same.
I will re-download the image if the sha256sum I posted above is wrong.
But it will have to wait until this evening.

Re: Brand spanking new 2018-11-13-raspbian-stretch-full.img

I can't imagine what could be causing it, nothing else is connecting to it, it is not intarweb facing, I have a 40" tv, a keyboard, mouse and powered hub. I have done it twice now, and I'm sure I documented it correctly, insomuch as I didn't miss anything out or do it in a different order to that wh...

To replicate: dd image to clean sdcard When sdcard written, mount said sdcard and edit /media/pi/rootfs/etc/dhcpcd.conf and insert the static ip addresses in readiness. I'll take your word for it, but it was brand new, logged into once, and I had had no other interactions with it when I changed the position of the taskbar. Some settings box came up at the same time and I clicked on whatever it wanted, then it rebooted the machine and the taskbar had reverted to the...

Re: Brand spanking new 2018-11-13-raspbian-stretch-full.img

I forced the thing to stay where I put it, by manually editing these files to be identical /home/pi/.config/lxpanel/LXDE-pi/panels/panel /home/pi/.pp_backup/.config/lxpanel/LXDE-pi/panels/panel But at the time there were 4 'panel' files below /home/pi, but there seems to be only two now and things h...

Brand spanking new 2018-11-13-raspbian-stretch-full.img

I have installed the latest Raspbian to a new sdcard, it boots and leads me through a series of nanny setups and then reboots. All is good. I right click on the desktop and using the context menu, move my taskbar to the bottom of the screen where sane people usually have it. All works well. I reboot...

Re: Discouraged

You're right of course, but I keep expecting these 'upgrades' to get better with time, and I'll not know when they get it right if I don't suffer a trashed system every now and then. It seems to be that if you are pi and are using the OS with default settings, you can survive an 'update', but if you...

I apt-got upgraded today and it broke everything, Xorg runs but uses 100% cpu and the entire screen is redrawn 1 pixel at a time and manages about 3 pixels a second. Totally unusable anyway. I've tried again on a different image and I am at the point where I have to reboot to see if it worked this t...

Re: webserver clustering

I shall certainly bear it in mind once I get the case resprayed. The multitude of Pi also gives me redundancy, as 3 can die and I'm still serving pages. Obviously this just moves the single point of failure upstream from the Pi, but it's been an interesting project, and there's far more flashing led...

You need to be a little more specific.
If I posted a photo of a $100 bill and asked how to make more of them I would probably be underwhelmed with replies.
What are you trying to do, other than have to login to a realm repeatedly?

webserver clustering

I have 4 raspberry pi2 and and orange pi R1 as a load balancer all running apache2. This is powered by a 10 amp 5 volt psu. How many more pi2 could I add to the cluster before ' only 10 amps ' became an issue? Would swapping the pi2 out and replacing them with pi3 be advantageous or would a go faste...

Re: RPi 3B+ gigabit ethernet bad download speeds.

Hi guys, I came here because I'm having SMB problems as well. All the tests I did (iperf, speedtest-cli, manual tests) all run smoothly, the problem is when I try to play a video from the mounted hard drive of my RPi3 B+ from a device connected to it via SMB. Is there any workaround (even if it may...

What causes this?

I have a windows box with 2 drives, both are shared and are mounted at boot by the raspberry pi. Both are instantly accessible all the time, never a delay or a pause when trying to read or write to either of them, but my log is full of the following. May 20 13:42:04 raspberrypi kernel: [43535.598765...

That's not right... There should be lots of messages in there from dhcpcd What does ifconfig say about the interface during the "pause" ? PeterO You are assuming that I'm not running with a static ip and that dhcpcd is aware of this and doesn't bug me. Since up to now you've not mentioned static ad...

Re: stopping for a rest

You've missed the point. Just because your process that uses NFS is pausing doesn't mean the problem is with the networking. Running a ping (to anywhere) will show if the PI's network stack and hardware are still functioning during the pause. PeterO I did as you suggested, I opened 3 lxterminals on...

Re: stopping for a rest

I can try that , although why the windows box, the nfs server and the internet would all be having problems while the plucky pi3b+ is blameless, kind of defies logic. You've missed the point. Just because your process that uses NFS is pausing doesn't mean the problem is with the networking. Running...
