Well there's only so many ways you can make a rectangular box look different, I do see some significant differences between those two though, notably the gpio access and the way they bolt closed.

Bad, neoprene is an insulator, better to have the circuit board sitting on little polyurethane feet, it would still be 'non slip' and have air space underneath.

SD card adds 12mm.

Edge of the board at SD card to the far end of the usb ports is 92mm (add the 12 for the SD card)

Total width is 68mm

Of course you need to plug stuff in to it too

That's ok, the reason I'm so sure is because I've seriously thought about doing just what you were hoping to do, I like that idea.

Can you check to see if there is power feeding from the hub back into the usb port of the RPi? plenty on here about this causing issues.

Once you get yours you'll see what I mean, you would have to cut the case along it's length just to get the RPi into it since you could not slide it in from one end.

It wouldn't work I think, the RPis' pcb is about the same width as the widest part of that case and you have phono, audio and hdmi sockets sticking out along the sides even further. Add to that the ethernet and usb ports on one end are ~17mm high which means you'd need to mount the RPi low down and ...

Have you tried it on a powered usb hub? It might be that the RPi just can't supply enough power for it to work.

Heh, a few, mostly because the plastic can be a bit brittle.

Another thing you could try is the Raspbian distro but if I read you right you said you've tried with both keyboard and mouse disconnected at the same time, this says to me that neither of them are the problem.

Does the Pi boot ok with both of them unplugged? if so have you tried a different keyboard/mouse combo?

Actually a bit long, you can get 3 business card boxes for £1.99 which are a near perfect fit and you get two to practice on.
