Note that my child previiously managed to set up some media playing youtube thing and play 'gangnam style' at uber volume through exactly the same equipment.

Re: Jack server is not running and cannot be started

adding 2>/dev/null (without spaces!) to the end of the espeak command only supresses the error messages, there will be sent to the device /dev/null. This is cleaning the output. The other commands suggested and their output/ results could help to find out the possible causes. If you will go ahead, ...

Re: Jack server is not running and cannot be started

Hi Matthew, another hint from http://elinux.org/R-Pi_Troubleshooting#Sound: On Debian Wheezy, snd_bm2835 is enabled, by default, do that step is not necessary. Next try: sudo aplay /usr/share/sounds/alsa/Front_Center.wav The Result: Get a short indistinguishable sound. Doesn't sound right. By defau...

Re: Jack server is not running and cannot be started

Hi Bav, Ghans,

We followed all the instructions you've given us, but we stilll get the same result: quite a lot of 'unknown PCM cards' or no results at all if we use 2>/dev/null.

Re: Jack server is not running and cannot be started

Hi Matthew, As you can see, 'meistervision' did get these messages although. I got this errors too. A workaround is to add 2>/dev/null at the end of the command line, e.g. espeak "Hello, I am Espeak, the voice synthesizer" 2>/dev/null Does this work for you? Unfortunately we get no sound. But at le...

Jack server is not running and cannot be started

Hiya,

We're trying to install a program from Meister Vison:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=br-xyW8iccg

A vitally important 'sound like Stephen Hawking' prog. The program is called espeak. However, even after having updated the software we get various error messages.

Regards,

Matthew

Hi Milhouse, We've tried a few times. Doing it now. Unfortunately it takes a very long time to finish. In fact I don't think it does finish, the Terminal program does not produce another $ sign. It does warn it will take some time, though how long on a Mac I have no idea - I guess 5-10 minutes coul...

Now it says: Entering kdb (current=0xcb82ac80, pid 1) due to keyboard entry kdb> We tried this twice, once with the keyboard unplugged. Not sure I'd recommend buying it, to be honest, as the software is already out of date, and pretty much any SD card from a reputa...
