Possible to integrate hardware watchdog into software?

In my application I have various therads, there is a single main thread that watches all the others, if any of the threads die then the main Daemon thread knows something has gone wrong and restarts the PI. My problem is if the main Daemon thread unexpectidly quits, then the PI wont be able to resta...

Increasing boot time

Relatively new to linux here, but I'm looking at ways of increasing the boot time of the PI. I have written a python application that starts as soon as the PI has booted up, and all the PI has to do is run this application and nothing else. The application uses omxplayer, sqlite, the internet and a ...

How to send keystroke q to omxplayer to quit

I have an application I'm trying to put together where omxplayer is called in a python script using os.system('omxplayer --adev hdmi sot.mp4') I then need to be able to quit omxplayer as if I was pressing q on the keyboard but I can't figure out how to do this. I have worked out one way by using the...

I need some advice on a media player and omxplayer

I'm making this project in my spare time with my raspberry pi where it will play video files one after the other and it will let me control the playlist remotely. I'm at the stage now where it can play the media files (each file is around 30 seconds in length) with omxplayer, and it will loop throug...

permanent power supply

I'm looking to use my raspberry pi in a project that will see in be on 100% of the time, could be months could be years! Now obviously a phone charger will not cut it, what are my options for powering the pi in this scenario? I was thinking of using a pc power supply, but it seems a bit too big and ...

optocouplers interfacing

I have 6 dc motors which I need to sense with the pi when they are switched on. I was originally going to use a zener diode or voltage divider with a cap, but I believe the best way to do this is with an optocoupler (Please correct me if i'm wrong) But I don't know anything about these isolators, on...

Watchdog timer

I need to setup a watchdog timer for my raspberry pi, and came across this thread http://www.raspberrypi.org/phpBB3/viewtopic.php?f=28&t=9526&p=110042&hilit=watchdog+timer#p110042 But I don't understand, is there a built in watchdog in the raspberry? What are my options for a watchdog? And if there ...

cli font colour

I'm using a basic python code to call omxplayer in a loop to play some short videos, but in between it goes back to the CLI and you can see all the writing, I would like it just to be a blank screen so the easiest way is to set all the font in the CLI black.

How can I do this?

Re: Sensing 6 DC motors

I don't need any accuracy at all, the motors will be switched on for several seconds at a time and I only need to know if its been switched on. Since I have the zener can I not worry about the cap? Also the circuit is not doing what I expect it to do, without the zener I get my 3.3V, but as soon as ...

Sensing 6 DC motors

I have 6 DC motors that run at 12V. From time to time one of these motors may switch on for several seconds. I want to design an electronic circuit that will let me interface my raspberry pi to these 6 motors so I can log when once switches on. (It must be able to tell which motor is switching on) I...

Re: Issue with known working WIFI

I'm entering the password directly into the interface file, so there are no backslashes, just alphanumeric characters. Also my SSID is broadcasted, if I do a scan with the dongle, it shows about 4 wireless networks it can pick up, one of them being my network, so I can definitely see it. Just still ...

SSH through bridge working, internet not

As my previous post, I have gotten my SSH working through a bridge connection.
Yet the internet does not work on the raspberry, is there an extra step I have to do to get the internet working?

Sorted! In case anyone has the same problem. I set up a static IP on the raspberry by modifying the "etc/network/interfaces" file For my eth0 connection, I changed dhcp to static as shown, and added the below with the correct settings for my network. iface eth0 inet static address 192.168.1.5 netmas...

Network bridge issues (solved)

My raspberry has been working fine through SSH when I have the network cable connected straight to my router. As I had to drag the router across the room I decided to setup a bridge from the raspberry to my pc. I connect the raspberry straight to the PC, open up the network settings, select my wirel...

Of course, exactly like in the instructions.

My wifi dongle sees my home wireless network if I do a scan, just doesn't connect as shown above. Doesn't give any errors or wrong password messages.

Richard can you post the link of the video you used for testing, I've got my plugin out of the blacklist and it seems to be working, except whenever I point it towards the test.h264 file that comes with the installation it doesn't work, kind of just hangs. I'm thinking it might be the specific video...
