Re: Boblight possible?

Hey Dave,

have you tried restarting boblightd? (sudo initctl restart boblight)
This should do the trick without rebooting because boblightd is the one that parses the config file.

Re: Boblight possible?

Hey Kids stop fighting... :D VZoltan if you want to compile xbmc yourself follow the tutorial here: http://www.raspbmc.com/wiki/technical/building-xbmc/ This is where I started if you run into problems feel free to ask me. I think someone already made a patch for xbmc out of the omxplayer changes so...

@BerryPicker

I used this version https://github.com/werkkrew/boblight-archarm so it should have the fix included.
I will post my setup next week as soon as my hdmi to composite converter is here!

Re: Boblight possible?

@rcph you have to download it to your pi using wget, make in runnable and then start it
for raspbmc the commands after download are:

Code: Select all

sudo chmod +x boblight-v4l
./boblight-v4l

@rcph here is the binary ftp://test:[email protected]/publicftp/boblight-v4l

I had to install some libraries to compile it like libx11-dev so you may get some errors

Re: Boblight possible?

I had to compile it myself but can upload the binary later when i'm at home edit: btw it works with the grabber mine arrived yesterday. I could only test it with a video on my camera but it looked like it had little to no lag and the colors were also correct! I really hope my av converter is in the ...

Re: Boblight possible?

I just compiled boblight-v4l on my pi and it seems to work oob with a v4l device (ps3 eye). I don't have the capture hardware yet so can't test the if the grabber works with it but I guess this is the easier way to go...

Re: Boblight possible?

I am currently trying to add a component connecting to boblightd to get it working with more led types.
I don't know how long it will take me but it shouldn't be that hard :)

Here is my git repository with a fork of the newest xbmc:

It SHOULD work but I can't guarantee anything.

Re: Boblight possible?

Hey groove, I added the patches manually so created no diff. As the patches I used rely on an older omxplayer they are'nt fully compatible with the new one in xbmc. You can check out Stasik0's git https://github.com/Stasik0/omxplayer for a newer version of the needed files. If you want we can try to...

Re: Boblight possible?

I guess boblightd isn't running so it gets stuck connecting.
I noticed that boblightd isn't started by rc.local anymore but haven't found out why or a workaround for this.
You can start boblightd manually before starting a video by ssh with

Code: Select all

sudo boblightd -f

Experienced some glitches but none of them were extreme :)

I tried building Speedys boblight but it can't connect to my lights because there is no SPI support?! Anyone else already running this?

Re: Boblight possible?

My only issues are with 1080P + DTS (small pause every 5secunds) and some random crashes for 1 in 10 cases but i can live with that. Have you overclocked your Pi? And are you streaming the movies? I got rid of almost all stuttering with a 900mhz overclock and an increase of the buffersize in xbmcs ...

the link you posted is a good place to start. Theres a picture how to connect the leds and the rpi. After you have done that you can follow the guide on page 6 and it should work.

Re: Boblight possible?

Even with the settings in boblightoptions.txt set to enabled=false and an IP address of 127.0.0.111 (i.e non existent), it is still working. How is it set up to behave when a config file isn't found, does it revert to default settings or something, because this seems to be the case, unless the conf...

Hmm for me the optionfile works fine but will check again. I wasn't able to fix the cec error I got when compiling the dependencies so still no 12.1 build... Got it working now so here is the new bin: WARNING! I haven't tested it yet because I'm waiting for the tar creation to finish but it should w...

Re: Boblight possible?

I haven't looked into it lately as I'm more of a software person and have no idea what could cause this interference. If I have some more time I will talk to a colleague of mine who knows electronics maybe he can help. I'm sorry to say it but it looks like there won't be a new (or old as it is 12.1)...

Hey VZoltan,
thats interesting and now that you have found the culprit I will try to investigate what the problem is.

I think there is one I posted two pages back...
