Re: Registration for donated Rpis.

<t>That is indeed what we are planning to do Chris. We are not expecting any funding from anyone until we had a demo Rpi up and running with the software. I will hopefully show it off to the Rpi folks themselves, as we are based so nearby.<br/> <br/> The idea behind putting the project on the forum ...

Re: Diaspora "SEED"

Jzu, that is essentially what I had imagined. I suppose the principle is the same with freedombox, in that it needs to be plug-and-play for mass uptake.

Re: Registration for donated Rpis.

<r>I appreciate you don't have much to go on based on my posts.<br/> To summarise:<br/> 1) The RasPi team are clearly not going to be throwing these around to all comers.<br/> 2)We are all post-grads - there is no element of "impressing lecturers" or whatever else you folks were assuming.<br/> 3) We...

Re: Diaspora "SEED"

<t>It has a similar ethos to freedombox.<br/> Plus- it was written in Ruby by a bunch of American students in their early 20's + collaborators.<br/> <br/> The big question is clearly resource demand and compatibility... but if that is cleared up then the idea of buying a £20 box to host a "pod" for ...

Re: Diaspora "SEED"

Given all the bad press concerning facebook at , it would be nice to use the Rpi to host our own diaspora seeds to spread the word about open source social networking!

Re: Registration for donated Rpis.

<t>Just to clarify, we are initially sending them/ taking them out to medical clinics in Africa (starting with one in Kenya) as per a previous forum post -<br/> <br/> The plan is to get a distribution network based upon the medical student electives that ~8000 medical students undergo each year in t...

Re: Registration for donated Rpis.

How would we go about registering for (say) 20 donated Rpis as a charitable organization- looking to use them in developing world clinics for Electronic Medical Records?

I can see you have a buy one give one model planned BUT how do the getters get given them?

Re: Raspberry pc + eink display

I posted the same idea on my Electronic Medical Records project thread- if we could run a whole screen/ Rpi package off of solar power it would really help getting them out into developing countries!

Re: Electronic Medical Records package for the developing world

We also have the question of HOW one goes about requesting charitable donations of Rpi Units for projects such as ours. We would only start off with ~ 10 suggested for the pilot.

Re: Electronic Medical Records package for the developing world

<t>Ideally we would be off-grid entirely... solar power with eInk HDMI-interfaced screen so that the whole setup is low wattage and has a reserve battery cluster... it would easily be possible now, if there was interest from the eInk screen manufacturers! I think there would be crossover with the co...

Re: Electronic Medical Records package for the developing world

<t>I am pleased to see this interest in the project. You have come to the same conclusion as I have, in that using 3G will be a better strategy for centralization (based primarily on my time in Sri Lanka). I particularly have in mind areas of Malaysia as a pilot study. Of course we will need a multi...

Re: Electronic Medical Records package for the developing world

<r>The current question is which software to use. My favorite choice so far is OpenMRS (<URL url="http://openmrs.org">http://openmrs.org</URL>). This is tried and tested, and has lots of support behind it.<br/> <br/> The question is will it run, and how easy will it be to network the RPi so that a f...

Re: Electronic Medical Records package for the developing world

<t>The Raspberry Pi is the perfect size and spec for a project taking it to small developing-world health clinics, networking several together and running an open source EMR program - so that the doctors can keep track of patients and their information. We would need to create a secure local network...
