Re: Pi4 vs Pi3 Audio Performance

The usual suspects: - Is audacity generating 16-bit samples and storing as 24-bit? - Dithering at 16-bit resolution? - Resampling using a suboptimal filter? I used audacity to generate the wav file that I played in VLC, so it is generating 24 bits. The audacity team must have changed something beca...

Re: Pi4 vs Pi3 Audio Performance

Can you check with a WAV file and play it with "aplay -v 1khz.wav"? Please test this on RPi3 Stretch, RPi3 Buster and RPi4 Buster and post the output of above command and your THD measurements. Could well be that Audacity in Buster behaves differently to the version from Stretch. so long, Hias Look...

Re: Pi4 vs Pi3 Audio Performance

What audio driver drivs the DAC? PulseAudio? Maybe there is resampling/mixing/processing in the background until the audio stream reaches the DAC. Have you tried JACK? I am not sure what you are asking. There is clearly a difference between Volumio and Raspian. I don't know what that difference is....

Re: Pi4 vs Pi3 Audio Performance

Far too many variables. The first things to check. - kernel versions. Only the absolute latest Stretch updates bumped it to the 4.19 kernel, whilst Buster is 4.19. - Test Buster on a Pi3. AFAIK The I2S block is identical between the two, although implemented in 28nm instead of 40nm. The clock setup...

Pi4 vs Pi3 Audio Performance

Hello, I was trying out my company's PecanPi DAC ( https://orchardaudio.com/pecanpi ) on the new Pi4 and the audio performance is much worse than with a Pi3. Here is what I did: Pi3B with Raspian Stretch and audacity installed -- THD+N = 110dB Pi4B with Raspian Buster and audacity installed -- THD+N...

Specifically, an attractive blend of dynamic force, rich imagery and ...

Re: How to permanently set wifi power

Add “iwconfig wlan0 txpower 10” (no quotes, no sudo in front) to /etc/rc.local This is a system provided shell script that is executed at boot and can run simple tasks. I had edited the rc.local file it with sudo iwconfig wlan0 txpower 10 It is working are you sure you don't need sudo at the front ...

Re: How to permanently set wifi power

The Pi has very very little memory that survives a reboot - all that has been released is documented here - but to save your time only 8 of the 66 32-byte words have documentation and WiFi power is not one of them and everything else comes off the boot media. The best bet is to create a simple Bash...

Re: PecanPi -- Next Generation Raspberry Pi DAC and Streamer

Hello, I am evaluating a FPGA reclocker + slave DAC configuration for my RaspPi. Does PecanPi make both RaspPi and PCM1794 slave to an external master clock ? Is this configuration comparable/superior to RaspPi Master + reclocker ? Does the RaspPi kernel injects some jitter by its own (independentl...

Re: PecanPi -- Next Generation Raspberry Pi DAC and Streamer

I have had multiple questions regarding volume control on the unit.

The volume control can be either through the knob on the unit or through software when you control the device remotely.

The HW volume control on the unit (knob) will be better than to the SW one. Both will sound great.

hi OrchardAudio,

Does the PecanPi use the ApplePi overlay?

I haven't noticed a PecanPi overlay yet.

regards
Greg
It will use the RPI-DAC overlay, which is essentially identical to the one that you mention. Both will work.

Code: Select all

dtoverlay=rpi-dac
