Re: Boblight possible?

Follow these instructions if you are going to reinstall:
http://blog.nadnerb.co.uk/?p=166

I would probably hold on a few days until the October version is released.
I'd imagine the instructions will still be the same as above, unless Sam has switched to Hyperion (anyone tried it yet?).

Re: Boblight possible?

Hi, Yes I've tried that as well, but the changes only apply after a complete restart. I have the right colors now after a lot of rebooting. Next problem: After an update of XBMC yesterday, bob light 'freezes' when I start a movie. No problem with viewing pictures or the UI. But when I start a movie...

Wait, what version did you have before the fresh install?
After the fresh install, what did you do to enable boblight?

Re: Boblight possible?

Failing that, quit complaining and compile your own xbmc with the butchered OMXplayer or go back to an old Raspbmc build. Hm, really nice reply. Sorry you see it as complaining, for me it is feedback for a couple of side effects from the use of dispmanx But reading your comments you have not, or qu...

Re: Boblight possible?

And the other thing is that this new solution uses cpu even im not using raspbmc for video at all, it is always running and calculating screenshots... 24/7 (even if i turn on black screensaver to turn off the leds...) You already have a ready made solution in your web app, If you're not using dispm...

Re: Boblight possible?

For those who want to give boblight a try on OpenElec... I wrote another guide: http://blog.nadnerb.co.uk/?p=142 For the record, I found the same issues as reported above. Performance is bad and I found the LEDs lagged behind. Not really sure what the cause is, possibly the OpenElec version of bobli...

Re: Boblight possible?

I had a concern though. I don't know if it's me hoping to get better results from a better optimized xbmc such as openelec or just a configuration thing, but I have noticed this flavour of boblight with dispmanx seems to be less responsive and more resource needy than the one I used in Raspbmc. It ...

Re: Boblight possible?

Is it possible to turn off the leds when the xbmc gui is active, and use the leds only when a movie is one with this new boblight-dispmanx solution? I like this way at is it now with omxplayer patch cuz My pi is always on since last september, and xbmc is always active. I dont want to see blue ligt...

Re: Boblight possible?

Also, you don't need boboptions.txt.
That was only required by the modified OMXplayer.
To set options with boblight-dispmanx you pass them when you start it.

Re: Boblight possible?

Raspbmc currently supports Boblight, but uses an OMXPlayer patch to do so. I'm looking at transitioning to this for ease of maintainability, but I'm wondering if you have any numbers on how it compares to an OMX implementation performance wise. Is it CPU-intensive? Thanks Sam, I haven't noticed any...

Re: Boblight possible?

No problem. @dom published a new firmware last night that solves the flickering problem when running dispmanx snapshot. My application now works flawlessly (I think). Please try it out and let me know. You will need to do the following: rpi-update wget https://github.com/brooc/boblight-rpi/raw/mast...

Re: Boblight possible?

Got the new cables and no more flickering. I just need to do the config for 100 LEDs. Nadnerb I'm not sure as I've not mounted them yet but are the colours using your config slight off? Not sure then, could possibly be something to do with the Arduino, but I have never used one, sorry.
Yeah you can try the plugin, I guess it works although I haven't tried it.

Re: Boblight possible?

Ok... So I've double checked the wires connecting to the GPIO and they are correct. I also tried to switch them around to double check. Still nothing. Leave the power wired into the CCTV plug. Unplug the blue, green and yellow wires from the female LED plug and plug them into the male end (make you...

Re: Boblight possible?

sounds to me more like you have the leds connected to the pi wrong. thats exactly what happened to me and that what it turned out to be in the end. it should be easy enough to determine the ground wire on your led's and then you just have clock and data left and only two ways round. i just would no...
