Re: [GUIDE] Raspbian Lite with PIXEL/LXDE/XFCE/MATE/i3 GUI

How do I install the add and remove programs setting that lets you find and install programs? In Rasbian Lite, anything you see in full Rasbian can be installed to your installation of Rasbian Lite. You just need to figure out the name of that "package", meaning that each application is associated ...

Archive extracting comes with the desktop environment. Otherwise Xarchiver is a good one.

Re: [GUIDE] Raspbian Lite with PIXEL/LXDE/XFCE/MATE/Openbox

Thanks, this is very interesting. I have tried it and I must say this procedure is in no way quicker than installing the full Raspbian image then removing the packages I don't want. Removing packages from full Raspbian kind of defeats its purpose. You're better off starting clean. Some packages wil...

Re: [GUIDE] Raspbian Lite with PIXEL/LXDE/XFCE/MATE/Openbox

Hello, I'm using Raspberrypi3-b and I have downloaded the NOOBS myself and installed Raspbian Jessie Lite by mistake because I wanted to have the desktop environment in the first place. So I did my research and I came up with this Guide. I followed all the instructions and I did installed PIXEL; af...

You only compared Raspbian Jessie Lite without Pixel to Raspbian Jessie Lite with Pixel.
It's already there.

Thanks - can you tell me where I can find a list of Pixel commands/programs that are NOT installed with Jessie Lite? For example, I would like to install the GUI version of raspi-config but I can't find it. I did sudo apt-get install -y rpi-chromium-mods but that only gave me a few commands. update...

Hi - thank you for this guide! I'm running Pixel on Pi 3 on Jessie Lite as per your instructions. I installed RealVNC server and I'm able to connect via both Windows 10 and Android with the RealVNC clients. I would like to run the Pi totally headless but X Windows/Pixel won't start without a monito...

Virtual Machine Playground When trying to figure out what desktop environment works best for your Raspberry Pi, you would most likely reformat your SD / microSD card several times since there is no option of going back in time. You installed LXDE, but you didn't like it, so you reformatted and inst...

Re: [GUIDE] Raspbian Lite with PIXEL/LXDE/XFCE/MATE/Openbox

Noob here, and I have a possibly silly but simple question. If I install Pixel or Mate over Raspbian Lite, does the auto USB mount still work like in regular Raspbian/Pixel? The reason I'm asking is I had the RetroPie image (built on top of Raspbian Lite I believe) and used the setup script to inst...

Re: [GUIDE] Raspbian Lite with LXDE/XFCE/MATE/Openbox GUI

Theming XFCE is similar to LXDE. You just have to find themes compatible for the XFCE4 desktop. As for Python, well python itself is just a compiler. You need an IDE to actually write python code. There are tutorials out there in using python on Raspberry Pi.

Hi, I don't understand why I should use this Raspian Lite + extra GUI instead fo using Raspina, as this article says that Raspian is using 93MB while the least consuming Lite + extra GUI is using 97MB. Well 93 < 97, so if I 'm not concerned about disk storage, full blown Raspian is the best choise,...

Re: [GUIDE] Raspbian Lite with LXDE or XFCE GUI

I just updated this guide to include XFCE. I just though maybe some users would want this. Thanks guys for the feedback.

I kind of have to admit that XFCE looks better out of the box than LXDE. But both can look great as long as you have the time to customize it.
