I didn't even think to try the java samples. I would guess that the glut/c++ implementation would run a bit faster (if it worked).

I see you got the SimpleViewer working, I thought there were issues with glut or something, it didn't work on mine. Did you do anything different? Which distro? I was using Debian squeeze, I am going to update to wheezy soon though.

I tried compiling the Kinect drivers for OpenNI from https://github.com/avin2/SensorKinect/ but the compile failed due to what seems like some missing header files.

Try plugging the Arduino in a different USB port (maybe directly to the RP)

I just rearranged the ordering of my Arduino and Keyboard to not be through my hub and now it all works! Really surprising since the Arduino is being powered directly from Raspberry Pi.

I just tried a few different combinations of where the USB devices were plugged in and now it works. Clearly a USB issue.

I am having the exact same problems. I haven'y tried Python but I cannot get communication working with C++ or LinuxTTY. All i get is an Input/output error.

Yes it is much newer, in fact the current kernel.img was built a day ago!

When your hub doesn't work when you cut the +5V, it's a clear sign that the hub was drawing power from the RP! It is exactly what happened with mine. I have now soldered an extra wire in my hub so the external power supply connects to the would-have-been-there USB 5V. Haven't got to testing it yet. ...

I don't quite understand the setup you have got there. In my powered USB hub there is a diode connecting the DC in V+ and the USB in V+. This stops the hub from sucking current from the RP if the DC in voltage drops. However, it does not stop the RP from drawing current from the hub if there is no v...

This could still be a power issue. The USB hub, even if self powered, has the potential to draw up to 500ma from the RP. The RP can only supply up to 100ma. The main thing to check is the rating of the power supply. The RP needs 700ma. I personally would get a power supply which can deliver at least 1000ma to be sure. Can you find out the power rating of your keyboard? If it is greater than 140ma then that could be the reason for the repeated key-presse...

The problem I read about was something to do with libusb or the kernel, the firmware upgrade would be as simple as writing a new image to the SD card, or maybe even just upgrading directly from the current SD card.
