Re: Kinect - Would it ever work with a Raspberry Pi?

AISamurai, he's only got the motor and LED working. The problem is in getting the video and depth cameras working.

Re: Kinect - Would it ever work with a Raspberry Pi?

I really doubt that the pi can't get the data from the kinect from a hardware standpoint. At the moment I can't even get the normal camera data off the device and that is just a bog standard webcam and those DO work on the pi. I'm planning on going through the freenect code to find out exactly where...

Re: Kinect - Would it ever work with a Raspberry Pi?

I have seen people claiming that they have gotten it working by compiling lsusb and I have been getting in touch of them to confirm that by ' working ' they mean that they can actually get the image data and so far by 'working ' they have either meant that the pi is now detected and they can run til...

Re: Kinect - Would it ever work with a Raspberry Pi?

Unless I am very badly mistaken the libraries don't use GLUT to get hold of the image data from the kinect, just to display the data once it is collected. The problem isn't in GLUT, the problem is that the raspberry can't get the image data to display in the first place. Try running this code to see...

Re: Kinect - Would it ever work with a Raspberry Pi?

I modified the tiltdemo code to try and grab the depth and camera images and it still doesn't work. As soon as the code gets to either of the camera calls it will just hang.

Re: Kinect - Would it ever work with a Raspberry Pi?

Ok but are you actually getting the image data off the camera? You say that it takes forever to initialise the camera, how long are we talking? I've been leaving it for a couple of hours and still not getting a response.

Re: Kinect - Would it ever work with a Raspberry Pi?

Yes it compiles and the motor and accelerometer work but are you able to get anything from the cameras? Because I'm not.

Re: Kinect - Would it ever work with a Raspberry Pi?

None at all, apparently if I can get the gspca_kinect module onto the pi then I can use the kinect as a regular webcam. If it is possible to decode the depth image back into distances then that might be enough for my purposes but I've not managed it yet. Basically any time I try to get image data of...

Re: Kinect - Would it ever work with a Raspberry Pi?

Without the hub lsusb only revealed NUI Motor on my pi, I had to use a powered hub to even detect the NUI Camera and NUI Audio devices. So I think that the powered hub is a requirement.

Are you using a powered hub to connect the kinect to the pi?

Re: Xbox Kinect and OpenKinect Driver

The kinect can be controlled by the pi (tilt, led, accelerometer) and appears to be detected correctly (lsusb wise) if you build libusb from source. Apparently the cameras will work correctly if you build libusb-compat as well but so far they don't work for me.

Re: Kinect - Would it ever work with a Raspberry Pi?

Is anyone able to get the image data back from the kinect. The Pi is now detecting the Camera and the Audio devices but I have yet to get freenect to actually grab the image data.

Re: Kinect - Would it ever work with a Raspberry Pi?

That isn't a problem. libfreenect and the drivers compile just fine on arm already. However, some people (including me) can't get the Pi to actually detect the kinect correctly (i.e the NUI camera and audio.

Re: Kinect - Would it ever work with a Raspberry Pi?

Thanks fatcinco for the libusb info I'm still unable to get it working under debian though. Do you mind posting the results from running lsusb? All I get is Bus 001 Device 008: ID 045e:02b0 Microsoft Corp. Xbox NUI Motor but I'm pretty sure that there should be a Camera and Audio device listed too, ...

Re: Kinect - Would it ever work with a Raspberry Pi?

For the moment everything is just plugged into wall (and that means separate kinect power supply) but at the moment debian wont recognise the kinect at all.

<t>The important things to distinguish here are the actual depth camera information from the kinect and the skeleton tracking/voice recognition stuff that is actually done by the 360 using the data from the kinect.<br/> <br/> The Rpi will definitely be able to get the depth info (and there is a lot ...

Re: Lego RCX/NXT robotic programming with Pi.

NXT++ allows you to control the NXT directly from C++ and the older releases support linux. I've used this method to control an NXT directly from a netbook stuck on top of a lego base so there is no reason that it shouldn't work for a Rpi.

Re: Kinect - Would it ever work with a Raspberry Pi?

<t>I'm planning on using a kinect with a Rpi as a distance sensor for a robotics project so I don't need all the skeleton tracking stuff which means the OpenKinect library is fine for me.<br/> <br/> I can report that the source compiles fine on the Rpi but it only kind of detects the kinect when it ...
