This worked great! Thank you! It appears that I would need to take the above step after the server has been stopped or the pi restarted. Which is okay with me.

Modified "Astros" project help needed

Hello, My son completed the "People in Space Indicator" project and he'd like to show it off at an upcoming event. The issue is that there is no internet available at the event and I'm having a hard time figuring out how to get the code to work with a local json file. Here is the original code he ha...

Python output text size... BIGGER?

My son and I have finished the "People in Space Indicator" project and he loves it! We've taken the step of having the names of the astronauts and craft(not in worksheet) printed on the Python Shell screen. This is a lot of fun to watch the names pop up as the LEDs come on. QUESTION: is it possible ...

People in Space Indicator - Success

After having so many issues with the burping jellybaby project I am happy to report that my son and I have had success on our second project... "People in Space Indicator". This worksheet is really well done... We're going to do the second part where we display the names, but just getting the code t...

I'm very sorry this exercise didn't work out for the OP - but it'd be very wrong for people to dismiss this activity on the basis of this poster's experience. We're aware of tens of thousands of people who have worked through this tutorial without any problems and who have enjoyed it and learned fr...

Re: HELP v confused Dad [HDMI no signal]

First! Congrats on getting your son a Rpi! I did the same thing and we're working on our 2nd project! Fun family time for sure! Also, I'm sorry you had to get a new video display. I had an old PC display laying around with a DVI input that I was able to buy an HDMI to DVI adaptor (>$10US)for and mak...

Re: GPIOZero install? sudo apt-get...

Okay... Jessie installed and gpiozero seems to be working.

Thanks! I assume I'm now using the must up-to-date version of Raspbian. Is Jessie updated in the same way Wheezy was? "upgrade" and "update"? Or will I need to re-image a card for an update?

@choice.locks, I'm not sure if you are following the other thread I was on with this issue. I got help and have seemingly solved the issue. See the last couple of thread here: https://www.raspberrypi.org/forums/viewtopic.php?p=877244#p877244 to see if it works for you. Start python by this typing th...

Okay... obtaining larger microSD card now to install Jessie. It seems that the "apt-get" should be getting and installing the GPIOzero anyway... no? no matter, It will take me a few days to get back to this with a new card and Jessie installed. Re: Burping Jellybaby error: pull up resistor is fitted

I too started with sudo idle3 & but this doesn't pop up the Python (3) Shell. So I just run (through start menu > Accessories > LXTerminal) sudo idle3 (without the & as I don't understand why it should run in the background anyway; also be aware to run idle3 with root privilege (hence the sudo) in ...

Re: GPIOZero install? sudo apt-get...

The package python3-gpiozero appears only to be available in Raspbian Jessie, not in Raspbian Wheezy. So, I don't understand that completely... I'm pretty new to the Raspberry Pi. I've looked on the Dowloads page and that looks like a completely different operating system, and complicated to instal...

Re: Screaming jellybaby programming

Not sure where you are having the issues at this point. But as you may have seen there are two other threads I was in trying to figure this thing out too. Take a look at this thread and see if you can change the code to print "x" and "burp" on the screen. Or get to the point where it runs by launchi...

Re: Burping Jellybaby error: pull up resistor is fitted

Also, I've noticed on our next project that we've started that I've had to manually update and install the "remote" python 3 module (people in space). I stumbled on a thread for something else that talked about doing this and solved the issue. I've done the upgrade and update... but apparently that ...

No, unfortunately it doesn't. We've been opening the shell with "sudo idle3 &" as stated in worksheet.

Re: Jelly Baby No Sound on Run Module

Okay We got it to work!!! Though, not in the python shell as the worksheet states. We found that you can start the program within the terminal window by typing "sudo python burp.py" by following the advise on that other thread and it runs and burps inside the terminal window without freezing.

Re: Burping Jellybaby error: pull up resistor is fitted

GOT IT!!!!! (sort of) After finding out the "#" symbols make that part of the code a comment we removed them... the shell still freezes if we follow the worksheet exactly and run the code inside the python shell as steps 8 and 9 state... So we went back and reviewed jehutting's post again... and saw...

Re: Jelly Baby No Sound on Run Module

The # at the start of the line turns that line into a comment - it is ignored when the program is executed. I think this explains why you don't hear any sound: you are not executing the command which should play it. Thanks... and that certainly now makes sense... though, I've now removed the "#'s" ...

Re: Burping Jellybaby error: pull up resistor is fitted

A little more progress... I used the code that Jehutting pasted in and it seemed to work... EXCEPT for the sound! It printed the "X" every second and "Burp" when the wires where touching. I believe that the code in the worksheet should have the "#" in the two lines... when I put those in the origina...
