the "CUPSwrapper printer driver (rpm package)" has a ppd file in it (correct ppd)
(mfcj435wcupswrapper-3.0.0-1.i386.rpm)
Probably the deb has too
open with your archive tool, copy manually

Re: Raspian, USB disk, change from GPT to MBR
A GPT disk has a backup partition table at the end of the disk,,
17 sectors perhaps
So use dd and skip (after a bit of calculation)
sorry, not skip,, seek (skip is for input files)

Re: Raspi and Brother Printer?
Nice that you bother to say
I suggest that you try to see if it will work with a usb cable,
also try to ping it

Re: Raspi and Brother Printer?
If dmesg dosn't show it,, then the kernel dosn't know about it,,, that is why it dosn't show in CUPS (dmesg is the kernel message ring buffer) A bad usb cable??? Does it work under windows?? maybe the usb chip (in the printer) is blown Again,, unplug, replug (to put it at end of dmesg),,, dmesg | ta...

Re: Raspi and Brother Printer?
I am guessing that there is a printer when you click the printer tab at top The printer has to be talking to the right port, or nothing happens So lpd://..... is probably wrong,,, it should be usb:// ..... or a network address,,, socket://<address> I have also seen a usb printer address be ,, socket...

Re: Raspi and Brother Printer?
A deb or rpm is an archive Do NOT try to install it,it will not work because these debs are for x86 Open it with an archive tool, just like it was a zip Not the scanner deb, probably not the lpd deb, open the filter deb for me, this is a 4 year old memory, there should be a setup.sh or install.sh (lar...

Re: Raspi and Brother Printer?
I think of it as a learning opportunity I am not so good at "hand holding" That is why I offered the simplest solution 1st My 625.ppd is almost 29K, so any script of large size probably has the ppd inside it (I am always curious what large scripts have in them) nano is not so good for mark...

Re: Raspi and Brother Printer?
You were given incorrect information,, unless they were referring to scanner, fax If you would have searched, I have already written about this simplest is to find what HP inkjet your printer most closely emulates OR download deb or rpm, open, extract setup (or install) script (DO NOT try to INSTALL...

I don't know if you have dd on your mac,
be VERY careful that you are pointing it at the right place,,
dd if=/dev/zero of=/dev/something count=200,,
blanks first 200 sectors,, then use mac disk utility again

Re: Creating IMG backup file
Err, dd has a count parameter, if is a reasonably fresh fs you could set up bs and count to only copy 10% empty space The fs does tend to write from beginning to end, That is a 40% full fs will all be in the first 1/2 of the drive I suppose you could check with a hexeditor, I wouldn't bother myself ...

It's nice that you finally told us enough to say something intelegant 5000 hrs is more than 200 days, you must not be in a hurry I doubt the rpi is as powerful as your netbook, more likely 1/2 I should think you would be better off tuning the software and geting a desktop, (with lots of memory), unl...

Well SD cards have emulated cylinders, heads , sectors,, but most everything nowdays use LBA INT 13!! that is real mode access, from the bios. Once you are past Win3.1 there is no int13 There are IFS,, installable file systems for NT, be carefull using them, win is not that reliable wrinting ext2, m...

Is arm gdisk so deficient?? x86 gdisk can convert in place,, IF,,if there is 17K free at end of disk, for the backup partition table So you may have to run gparted first Still faster than a long rsync My question,, does it understand LABEL,, ie root=LABEL="something" Personally I am addict...
