Re: Mouseclick On The Desktop Brings Up Programs From The Taskbar

For a novice user, how does one get this update? Also, what will updating affect? Would i need to back up my files? Thanks, Dan as a rule, it's always a good idea to back up any critical files that you don't want to lose. that being said, i opened a terminal and typed sudo apt-get update and presse...

Re: Files Are Compiled As Shared Libraries Instead Of Executables

It turns out that the original developer of file is local to me and I've met him a few times. I'm getting contact details for the current maintainer soon, I hope. Update : they've decided to fix it, but I don't know how long before this change will flow through to user distributions. Thanks. That's...

yep thanks :)

i just wanted to see if it did work as advertised.

i'd much rather find a way for it to work with pie enabled as extra security is never a bad thing.

I have confirmed that this does work: ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------ I have fixed this behavior by adding the following line on my project's .pro file in QT: QMAKE_LFLAGS += -no-pie ----------------------...

Re: Files Are Compiled As Shared Libraries Instead Of Executables

Thanks. I appreciate you trying and confirming it. Unfortunately the stuff that i compile relies on being executed with a double click from the icon on the desktop. I looked at the properties of the existing icons but I can't find anything helpful. If I knew what to associate the icon with i'd be in...

Re: Files Are Compiled As Shared Libraries Instead Of Executables

The behavior is occurring because newer ubuntu distros set GCC default link flag -pie, which marks e_type as ET_DYN on the binary file. Consequently, the Operating System recognizes as Shared Library. You have not explained how this matters. Yes the compiler makes position independent executables b...

Re: Files Are Compiled As Shared Libraries Instead Of Executables

tried a few compiles and didn't work.

gonna go back to jessie for now. if anyone finds a solution please post it in this thread.

this problem is common across many versions of linux including ubuntu, debian, arch and raspbian, all starting with stretch.

jessie does not have this problem.

Re: Files Are Compiled As Shared Libraries Instead Of Executables

it has nothing to do with boost or any particular file. i seems to be anything that i build. sorry i forgot to say that pie stands for position-independent executable (PIE) it is now turned on by default as of debian stretch. if i compile the same source in debian jessie the source compiles just fin...

Files Are Compiled As Shared Libraries Instead Of Executables

I have researched this problem and apparently as of debian stretch, the pie function which was previously default off has been made default on. not sure what that means as i am only a novice when it come to coding but the answer seems to be to use the following when compiling: gcc main.c -o main -no...

all the pi's that i tried it on were newly flashed with stretch. if you open something like file manager and click box between the - and x on the top right so it is a box instead of maximized and then remember where the left edge is then minimize it, when you go to where the left edge was you will s...

yes. i hadn't thought of changing the mouse. i'll try a different one. i noticed when i get to the part of the screen where it happens, the pointer changes from a point to the one where it looks like it's widening the box. almost like it's seeing a ghost of whenre the minimized box was previously. i...

qt4 stuff on x86 debian

Just a quick question that i don't know where to post lol. I do a lot of compiling for the crypto coin people and on the Pi version all of the qt4 stuff was already on the ISO file and on the PC version it is not. it was easy enough to install the needed dependencies, but as always the most importan...

The other method is: sudo dd if=/dev/zero of=/var/swap bs=1M count=1024 sudo chmod 0600 /var/swap sudo mkswap /var/swap sudo swapon /var/swap this worked nicely, thanks :) I did not use the first line as i did not find is necessary, so mine looks like this. sudo chmod 0600 /dev/sda1/swap sudo mkswa...
