Different md5 checks

When trying to compare md5 sums of SD cards I found they were always changing. I found the problem so I thought I'd mention it here in case anyone else is troubled by the same thing. On digging deeper I think what is happening is that every time you mount a card in Linux, the ext4 superblock gets wr...

Haven't come across this. It wasn't in my original raspbian jessie. Also now I'm using minibian which didn't contain such a tool - don't know if it does now. Couldn't find it on this forum or by googling. Can you provide a link to some article about it?

Wrong keyboard in Minibian - missing package

I have a standard 105 key UK keyboard but despite using dpkg-reconfigure keyboard-configuration and downloading and using raspi-config the keyboard stubbornly stayed at some sort of international version. All the special symbols were on different keys than my keyboard legends. I found the solution i...

Minibian vs Jessie Lite

I wanted to use Raspbian without the educational software and was considering one of these 2 versions. I used dpkg-query -l to create a list of installed packages of each and did a comparison. I found one package which was not in minibian which solved a problem for me - this will be the subject of a...

How to back up SD card using Linux

I posted a problem on the comp.sys.raspberry-pi newsgroup which was solved so it was suggested I should post the solution here. It is useful to be able to back up and restore a SD card, for example someone cuts the power mid-write which could corrupt the card and mean hours spent rebuilding the syst...
