Re: Long-running process and logging out of ssh

Referring to chrisoh's earlier post, would that allow me to keep a process running and even survive closing the ssh client altogether? and then later I can log back in again with ssh and associate the terminal session UI with the still-running old process? Yep, you got it. Detach your tmux/screen s...

Re: Battery concerns

Paranoia of your own diy projects can be a good thing, some of the time. The listing indicates they include the protection circuit, so they're fairly safe barring any direct physical damage (I've lost count of the lipos dotted around the place, I'm more worried about rogue power adapters used in pro...

Re: Long-running process and logging out of ssh

Check out tmux or screen , might help in your scenario. They allow you to create a 'session' that runs seperate from your SSH session. I.e. Create a session, run commands in that session and then leave the session. Then later rejoin the session and carry on, very handy indeed. i.e. sudo apt-get inst...

Re: Configuring dhcpcd in Raspbian Stretch

OK, I lied. I have a usb wifi device that works. Thanks to ShiftPlusOne for the dhcpcd hook tip. You must name the wpa_supplicant files a specific name or it won't work. For wlan0 = /etc/wpa_supplicant/wpa_supplicant-wlan0.conf For wlan1 = /etc/wpa_supplicant/wpa_supplicant-wlan1.conf There is one ...

Glad I'm not the only one

Taking the idea further, a self-contained Pi Zero plug unit (pogo pinned with clip-close cover) would be quite irresistible :!:

In case anyone else finds themselves here with the same question: add_overlay is not possible when not using the preview, as in the code above. I should've RTFM more closely. See: http://picamera.readthedocs.io/en/release-1.10/api_camera.html Overlays will appear on the Pi’s video output, but will n...

Re: Full / Lite difference when reboot/poweroff via ssh

Google for "Mac can tell if Pi is running Full or Lite version and react accordingly" and you'll get lots of hits explaining how to fix this problem. Really? I don't see any relevant links, nothing. Care to give one? I'm guessing it was sarcastic, though a bit misplaced? Maybe the response to pcman...

Can you explain why jail.local and jail.conf are almost identical in size, see the following from one of your previous posts The RPF tutorial says to cp the conf file, here: https://www.raspberrypi.org/documentation/configuration/security.md I think most other tutorials I've seen on the net say 'cr...

Sounds like you've tested Stretch to no avail, bit dissapointing. By 'echo' I presume you mean 'sleep' and is enabling rpcbind necessary? I've only ...

Re: fail2ban help !!

It appears normal (jail.conf and jail.local report a similar and reasonable filesize). The [ssh] section should be present, maybe you just overlooked it? Have you tried Ctrl + W to search for it in the nano editor? Link to "the website" you used would add context to the thread too.

This will likely mean that you lose some of the nicer system integrations from not running VNC as a system user.
Curious about the system integrations, can you elaborate?

Re: VNC to pi from Mac screen sharing

Last time I tried RealVNC I think I had to disable Encryption and change Authentication to VNC Password in the Pi's VNC Server's 'Security' Options for it to work with Screen Sharing. Personally I've used TightVNC for as long as the Pi 3's been out without qualms. However, now Stretch is out, if I c...

Re: config/networking headless Zeros from Pi3

Personally, I think the Raspbian image should be distributed not as a simple ZIP file, but as a self-extracting EXE of some sort. NOTE: Yes, I realize that the ZIP self-extract format isn't powerful enough to do what I have in mind - but something like RAR or, better, the standard "Win Shield" or w...
