Re: My Raspi is giving me a hard time, thinking about what is the best way to make things work

I think that I got my problem solved. Turned out that it was due to Transmission, a torrent client, which I once set up to share some distros' ISOs and then forgot about it. Seems like it was generating heavy upload traffic and somehow this led to the network connection destabilizing. Now I disabled...

Re: My Raspi is giving me a hard time, thinking about what is the best way to make things work

Sorry for double posting. So now my Raspi is hanging again, after just a few hours. It is still shown as connected in the router configuration. However, its local IPv6 address is shown only sometimes there. Pings come back mostly (sometimes one out of four gets lost). A connection to SSH or the CUPS...

Re: My Raspi is giving me a hard time, thinking about what is the best way to make things work

I think, I figured out the startup problem (I hope so at least). Looks like it was time for the regular filesystem check and it was not stuck booting but just busy doing the check. I waited for some time and the Raspi went online and is now reachable via SSH. Also I suspect that the SD card was lock...

Re: My Raspi is giving me a hard time, thinking about what is the best way to make things work

I'm also suspicious about the voltage readings... I fear, I don't have another SD card for testing but of course I could buy one since they are not that expensive. I could also try to check the SD card for errors on another machine, will do this later. But as you say, it might be a better idea to re...

Re: My Raspi is giving me a hard time, thinking about what is the best way to make things work

Makes sense. Still no readout though, it shows values between -10 and 10mV, mostly just 0... Tried touching the F3 thingy on both ends and also in-between, still no luck...

Re: My Raspi is giving me a hard time, thinking about what is the best way to make things work

drgeoff: Yes, it is definitely the first generation model B. I used it with a hard drive for quite some time (it worked :P ) but looks like it was working beyond its limits... njh: So now I have trouble to start it off again... Sometimes only the red power LED is on, everything else (including the H...

Re: My Raspi is giving me a hard time, thinking about what is the best way to make things work

In my experience, the first sign of trouble was the ethernet failing (and the ethernet activity lights go out). That's useful information! I am pretty sure that though the Raspi is not reachable via SSH, the ethernet lights are still active. Can this rule out a power issue? You could check this by ...

Re: My Raspi is giving me a hard time, thinking about what is the best way to make things work

@epoch1970: Thanks for the hint! I checked in the manual and indeed it supports several filesystems, to be more specific, FAT16, FAT32, ext2, ext3 and NTFS, but unfortunately not ext4... So I could in principle reformat the drive to ext3... Plugging in my ext4 formatted drive didn't get recognized, ...

[Solved] My Raspi is giving me a hard time, thinking about what is the best way to make things work

Hello Community, I am somewhat cheesed off by my Raspi lately. It's a first gen model B and I would like to use it as a print server and an NFS server. However, lately, it behaves weirdly: 1. It just gets unreachable via network (no NFS, no SSH). 2. It has a hard time booting up (needs several attem...

Re: Brother HL-L2300D Printer on Pi

Ok, now I looked into the building instructions. Where do you have this autogen.sh thing from? ;) On the brlaser page it says

Code: Select all

cmake .
make
sudo make install

Re: Brother HL-L2300D Printer on Pi

If you have a GUI installed on your Raspi, you can just use the file manager and check where the files are located. Otherwise, you can view the contents of any folder with ls -l /path/to/your/folder or just ls if it is the current folder. You can then jump to any folder with cd /path/to/your/folder ...

Re: Brother HL-L2300D Printer on Pi

Two things: 1. /path/to is also just a placeholder. It could be something like your home folder /home/pi or /home/joshlicht or just ~/ as shorthand notation. It could be also your desktop folder, ~/Desktop. Or any other folder - you have to know where exactly you extracted the zip file. 2. You need ...

Re: Brother HL-L2300D Printer on Pi

Well, as usual, via

Code: Select all

cd /path/to/extracted_folder
Most probably the folder is somewhere in your home folder, so it would be

Code: Select all

cd ~/extracted_folder
Of course "extracted_folder" is just a placeholder, you need to find out its name, most probably it is starting with "brother...".

I managed to make the printer work on the Raspi relying on the client side drivers, here is a HowTo: https://forum.manjaro.org/t/how-to-set- ... uter/57056

Re: Struggling to share a Brother HL-L2300D over network

I can try to dig them out but why don't you use the easier solution mentioned in the first line:
I got a reply from Brother's tech support. The automatic power off can be switched on and off by opening the front cover and pressing the Go button for 4 seconds.

Re: External hard disk doesn't get enough power out of a sud

My other question that I don't think anyone has asked, is have you tried the hard drive on a computer since this issue started? Yep, sorry, forgot to mention, I tried on my desktop. On the front USB ports it has the same problem, but on the rear ports with the Y cable it works perfectly. So even if...

Re: External hard disk doesn't get enough power out of a sud

So I tested the max_usb_current option, unfortunately it didn't help. I noticed that there were overclocking options set, which I cannot remember setting myself: ARM clock set to 900MHz (default 700), SDRAM clock set to 450MHz (default 400), voltage set to 2 (default 0). I changed the values to defa...

Re: External hard disk doesn't get enough power out of a sud

Thanks, I will try this option then! As far as I understood, the difference is that in one case there is one coil for each voltage setting, so the setting switches between different coils, while in the other case there is only one coil and the setting moves a contact so a different fraction of the c...

External hard disk doesn't get enough power out of a sudden

Hello community! I have a weird problem. I am using a Raspberry Pi B+ and an external hard disk (actually a former internal hard disk in a box). It worked fine for a year or even longer but yesterday, out of a sudden, I could not access the hard disk via NFS any more. So I just rebooted the Raspi ho...

So, it is like this: There are three machines involved: The router, IP: 192.168.2.1, host name: easy.box The server, IP: 192.168.2.104, host name: raspberrypi The client, IP: 192.168.2.103, host name: photon-desktop I ran nslookup from the client. To look up the router, reverse: $ nslookup 192.168.2...
