Re: OpenVPN firewall problem

Thanks for idea. That ufw command was rejected due to syntax,. What worked on home network was "sudo ufw allow 11948/udp". I'll now try it away from home.

Re: How to install Samsung SCX-4729FD printer

Thanks, scruss. Worked fine using CUPS Add Printer facility on localhost:631. I installed lsb-compat (I actually did apt install lsb but apt decided to install lsb-compat) since instructions for install of the ppd said to install lsb.

OpenVPN firewall problem

I've set up OpenVPN using pivpn with 11948 (not 1194) udp as the port. On my Netgear router I've port forwarded 11948 to 11948 on 192.168.101.18 (my Pi's static NAT address). On my Pi, input for 11948/udp has been allowed by using GUFW firewall gui. I've put the generated ovpn file onto my Android t...

Re: How to install Samsung SCX-4729FD printer

I've installed printer-driver-splix Ok. I did the CUPS Add Printer routine again. It showed some Samsung SCX printers but unfortunately not my 4729. Am I correct in stating that that was the way to use printer-driver-splix?

How to install Samsung SCX-4729FD printer

I've installed CUPS, Added pi to the lpadmin group. I've let port 631 open for incoming and rebooted. I can login to CUPS using http://localhost:631. When I select Admin & click Add Printer, it finds my networked Samsung SCX-4729FD printer but it wants a ppd file as it does not list the model on the...

This aggressive reply (i.e. including the word hijacked with its implication of theft) is why many people give forums a bad name.

Re: View CD/DVD drive and install wi-fi

The Edimax 7811-UN drivers are irrelevant to this problem. They are for the Edimax wifi usb dongle, which works fine on my Pi This problem concerns the dvd drive. Re: Adding a Category to the Menu

Silly me. Of course, alacarte is not applicable to Raspbian because it uses LXDE not Gnome. I wanted to use an existing Debian category (i.e. Science). To do that, I did 'sudo /etc/xdg/menus/lxde-applications.menu' followed by creating a copy of the Office lines (changing Office to Science) in the a...

Thanks. You were right. When I compiled, I then got a compilation error in one of the programs even though the programs had all compiled Ok om my Ubuntu desktop. I'm using a Pi1 (approx 1.5 years old). It used to work Ok with original Raspbian. I'm now trying to reinstall Debian Wheezy on new Kingston 4GB sdcard, as original sdcard was destroyed.
