Re: Pixel in VM, can't run raspi-config?

Duck Duck Go showed no home site for this software, yesterday, or the day before. Perhaps someone isn't being indexed well???

Or is it more fun to make me look stupid???

Bye! :P

Re: Pixel in VM, can't run raspi-config?

Windows version (sonic pi)??? Ahhh, that would be interesting. Odd a search hadn't turned that up. No, I wasn't suggesting it was Pixel... or the VM. Just trying to figure it out. Just installed another version of Debian live on a VM and I do have sound. Have sound on all other VMs... just not Pixel...

Re: Pixel in VM, can't run raspi-config?

I was hoping to getting audio. I wanted to fool around with Sonic Pi and noticed... no sound. Tried everything available from the GUI, no help. Sound is configured for the VM just as it is for my versions of Ubuntu and other distros. Not a big thing, just wondering what path to take. I'll check out ...

Pixel in VM, can't run raspi-config?

I just installed the new Pixel x86 on a virtual machine and can't not run raspi-config.

I see nothing in the pull down on the desktop either.

I must have missed something obvious. Has anyone else run into this? Thanks in advance!

Re: Motion - MMAL camera

@lowflyerUK So I see the tarball, a binary called motion, and the motion-mmalcam-both.conf along side everything else at /home/pi. What I don't see is the configuration file I would use to configure motion. I was not able to configure motion with that config file. Did I installed motion when I unpac...

Re: Motion - MMAL camera

@lowflyerUK Good news this morning! On a fresh install of Jessie I followed your original instructions an all went as expected (I think). Sadly that offers us little in respect to what went wrong. So, if someone else follows this hoping for a solution they may learn little. Perhaps mounting the USB ...

Re: Motion - MMAL camera

@lowflyer No problem, to recap then - I came here after I searched and found that 'maya' had the same issue I did and error: ./motion-mmal: error while loading shared libraries: libavformat.so.53: cannot open shared object file: No such file or directory While following along with what you suggested...

Re: Motion - MMAL camera

@lowflyer I have typed, and now copied and pasted: tar -zxvf motion-mmal-lowflyerUK-Z0151114.tar.gz and the pi returns: gzip: stdin: not in gzip format tar: Child returned status 1 tar: Error is not recoverable: exiting now end pi's response And it did seem odd that sudo solved the download problem,...

Re: Motion - MMAL camera

@lowflyer While you were writing me, I was re-reading what I sent you and thought 'jeez working these things out in a public forum can be embarrassing' ;-) No seriously it seemed obvious I could just force the issue by simply offering sudo... and low and behold your tarball arrived! However, whilst ...

Re: Motion - MMAL camera

@lowflyer, just had a chance to try what you suggested. When I tried to grab that tarball I got permission denied. Perhaps it's been changed or moved?

BTW, I was surprised regarding the performance improvements had by reducing the GUIs share. Thank you much for that.

Thanks again for your help!

Re: Motion - MMAL camera

On a fresh install of Jessie I could not get this little A+ through the downloads you mention. It spent about ten minutes moving through the dependencies list and then froze. I walked away from it and two hours later, nothing. Odd, it's the first time using a Pi I haven't had access to the keyboard....

Re: Motion - MMAL camera

@lowflyer, thank you for getting back to us. I'm in the middle of a fresh install (Jessie) and spinning another few plates at the same time. I just wanted to pop in and thank you (it may be a day or so before I'm freed up and I didn't want you to think I was being rude) As soon as this install is do...

Re: Has someone ever used the SunFounder's Modules Kit?

I purchased this kit about a month ago. It is a very nice kit, the sensors and support boards are well made. Mine came in a nice blue box with a well written instruction book. There is source code (shell and python) for quickly testing each sensor available in the kit. I have downloaded and run many...

Re: Motion - MMAL camera

Same here, I have been searching for some time. No problems configuring Motion on Pi2 but this little A+ and Jessie just won't run Motion. I have tried installing the dependency manually but with no joy. ./motion-mmal: error while loading shared libraries: libavformat.so.53: cannot open shared objec...

wpa_supplicant blank?

Should wpa_supplicant.conf be blank after booting? After editing this file, seemingly correcting a connection issue by doing so, I then returned a few hours later restarted the pi and had the same connection issues. I checked the conf and it was blank. The original issue is posted here as the post "...

Re: Net connection?

All is now working. I added

network={
ssid="The_ESSID_from_earlier"
psk="Your_wifi_password"
}

to the config file after running wpa-supplicant

I thought it was odd that this config file was blank.

Thanks again to both of you guys for your help!

Re: Net connection?

Yes Rasbian works perfectly, the OS was installed from a commercially supplied card. It connects (WLAN) just fine from the shell. I see my IP address, packets sent and delivered w/o issue. From the shell I have updated w/o problem (so I assume I am connected). Once I start the GUI 'startx' I see the...

Re: Net connection?

I wish I understood this a little better. If I connect via an Ethernet cable, why would the WiFi be needed? Are you suggesting that I reinstall the OS from the SD while connected? I installed without a connection, then rebooted with the dongle. How do I get the Raspberry to reboot from the SD (to tr...

Net connection?

I have installed Raspian on a new PiB2 and ran update and upgrade from the command line. The OS seemed to update, there were no apparent upgrades but the software seemed to run. I have tried running the epiphany browser (from the GUI) but can not make a connection (message indicated bad URL or not c...
