Re: extra RAM

i think once the design goes open source that would allow people to freely sell any kind of modded pi right?

i guess thats when we will see different variants of the PI.
i hope thats not going to take too long.

Re: Samba on USB - reserving file space before writing file

switch to ext4. or ext3.

i believe FAT32 file systems does this......
also ntfs possibly might do a similiar thing.
as in blanking the files first when first created.

do you guys run your pi 24/7 as a samba server? i've been wanting to order one for so long. but just read about the 1.8V LAN rail issue. strange that everyone is getting different speeds.... generally i've found that......the bottle neck of samba transfer rates isn't really the USB HD not being faster enough, its always been...... cpu, and the filesystem. i've got a MIPS router at 264mhz that can host at around 2-3mb/s. i would have ...

Samba Performance

Hi all, I know there are some old threads about samba performance but they aren't really what I want to as. I'm wanting to ask the samba performance over 100mbit network, and over a USB hd. What sort of MB/s write and read speeds do you all get? What file system do you use? NTFS? FAT32? ext3? ext4? ...

standard aus post.
but that cost like $12.95 extra.

I've refused to buy the PI because of all these silly delivery issues going on.
RS is sending it via DHL. and Element 14 want an extra $12.95

not impressed.

I agree with you 'ike'. I mean $13 bucks isn't alot of money. But its just WRONG to charge customers this shipping fee just because they feel like it. They sold it at $41.80 delivered before. Yes, I will also wait for RS to invite me to buy. I should get my invite this week. No way am I going to pay...

I called Farnell Australia up. And told them the price stated on the Pi page is different. They just said, shipping is $12.95 for any orders below $45 ex gst. which is in fact $49.50 inc tax. And no there weren't going to do anything. I'm not gonna pay another 1/4 of the PI just because Farnell want...

I'm severely disappointed with Farnell. They said everything under $45 ex gst will be charged a $12.95 delivery fee. Summary: Purchase $45 ex GST = $49.5 inclusive of Tax Purchase $38 ex GST just the PI = $41.80 + $12.95 = $54.75 inclusive of Tax On March the 27th they said $41.80 for the pi includi...

hi, According to the Pricing Matrix which was published on the 27 March for Farnell. It clearly states that in Australia, a total of $41.80 for the Raspberry Pi along with Tax and Delivery.
