Re: Why not program on x86 desktop?

As a father of an 8 year old and a 12 year old, I can say that children like it because it's different and it helps focus the mind as you can't simply switch it to play Sims, Battlefield 3 etc. Focus is key Yep. But also for me, the Pi is a constrained device. You will be bumping your head a lot mo...

Basic Linux Command Line Instructions - Please

I think that it would be very useful to have a glossary of basic Linus instruction as a sticky that newbies like me can refer to. The Linux for Dummies book is good, but a simple on-line reference would be better.

I'm enjoying Raspian and notice an improvement in terms of speed, there's a few issues, but I'm sure they'll be ironed out soon.

Well done all

Debian is ultra stable, I know it's not what you want to hear, but it works. Also Kingston 8gb car works and is solid.

How I laugh at the ignorance of journalists... If you cannot understand the basic premise of the Raspi you shouldn't review or buy one. Re: Practice

What I did was load a virtual environment, and then emulate the PI within that using Debian.

See: https://www.virtualbox.org/

However, what I have also done is added Debian on my laptop and at bootup choose between that and Windows.

I prefer the later to practice on tbh
