Re: A Pi using an external Zilog Z80 chip

I can't help thinking that you would have a much nicer time of it by getting hold of an actual Z80 board. For example the RC2014 Mini - Single Board Z80 Computer Kit: https://www.tindie.com/products/Semachthemonkey/rc2014-mini-single-board-z80-computer-kit/ I saw that board at the Bay Area Maker Fa...

Re: Using CAN and RS485 at the same time

I built such a CAN Bus & RS485 board a few months back. Here's a short write up on it: https://zuzebox.wordpress.com/2016/11/22/raspberry-pi-fieldbus-canrs485rs232-add-on-board/ The CAN Bus chips use the SPI interface, while the RS485 transceiver chip uses the UART interface and also two GPIO signal...

Re: RPi Synthesizer Project

@TonyD - Thanks for the link to the Rpi UART MIDI setup - very interesting. I assume you built some sort of MIDI IN to GPIO interface. Yeah. I've built a few for the RPi over the last few years. This was my last one: https://zuzebox.files.wordpress.com/2016/03/rpib_piio_midi02_small.jpg https://zuz...

Re: RPi Synthesizer Project

@Jum & @IanS Both synth projects look great. Over the years I've built a number of different serial MIDI interfaces for the Rpi for using a MIDI keyboard so I'm really looking forward to seeing how both your projects develop Here's my last attempt: https://zuzebox.wordpress.com/2015/12/13/setting-up...

I think Linux already has a GPIO keypad driver in the kernel. I've not tried it myself but try goggling linux gpio keypad driver and see what results you get

Re: $5 Linux board with WiFi

I backed the larger memory version at $9 and added a base board for a grand total of $24

Its very similar to the wrtnode board: MIPS SoC, WIFI, pin-header mountable

Re: SPI bus and distance

As others have said, 3 to 4 meters distance is too much for SPI but if you use "buffer" chip to improve the wire/cable drive performance and a bit of experimentation you might get it to work in your situation.

TI have a technical note on it:
