Yep, I ran ' apt-get install mono-complete' takes 42MB to download, 125MB to install, download time was 1.5 min. installing took 15 min or more. But then it worked.

Check out http://www.udacity.com they have a python programming starters course (cs101) which is a lot of fun and FREE. Online video's homework and final.

I don't know what you did exactly.

I just install tightvnc (sudo apt-get install tightvncserver) on the RPi

Ran: tightvncserver

and then could access the RPi desktop from my computer.
