Re: Basement sensors?

It looks like a glass baby food jar inverted on top of the tank with a float inside. No electronic sensors and the gauge is sealed so the only way to measure it that’s i could see would be some kind of image recognition if it were anything other than a visual from a camera. Figured I’d ask the quest...

Basement sensors?

I have a basement and am considering a project where I use a raspberry pi with a few sensors. My first priority is monitoring my oil tank level so I don’t run out during the winter. The gauge is a glass bottle style mounted on the top of the tank. Is there a good way to just collect the metrics or s...

I’m interested in the physical characteristics of PI controlled lights

I am planing on using the Pi as a controller- probably to control a relay unit that will work as a smart home style setup. I’m interested in the physical characteristics of the lights that will impact usability and durability for this application. Thanks though!

Need recommendation for lighting project....

I have an ancient house that has three floors. I am looking to put movie theater style lights down the stairs and am planning to have a centrally located pi to turn them on and off. Can anyone recommend some sort of LED strips that can survive things like being stepped on or spilled on that would wo...

Pi2 boot messages and omxplayer?

I have a project that uses a RPi2 with the 7" official touchscreen, the Adafruit Ultimate GPS HAT, and it requires Jessie- Wheezy doesn't work with it, and Stretch is not supported either. The project uses asplashscreen to run omxplayer to run a video during boot. I have tried everything to hide the...

I have a Pi3 that I have not been able to get the wireless to work on- I Have tried with Jessie and with Stretch, but in the desktop gui, it neve finds access points. It works fine if I use the Canakit Wireless Dongle. Any ideas or tweaks I can try?

Google play store music purchases?

I have a AIY kit and am looking at setting it up to play media. I’d like it to play items I have purchased from the Google Play store, but there’s another wrinkle- the music is under another family member’s sign in. How do I play this music? Do I need to set up the account linked as a family account...

Re: Blu-ray's?

You cannot play recent commercial Blu-Rays on Linux without makemkv , a program only available for x86 machines (Intel/AMD). Reason for this is that while a dozen Blu-Ray keys have been leaked , AACS actually allows revocation so makemkv is secrect code to not get more keys banned. That and the add...

Blu-ray's?

I have a collection of DVD's and Blu-Ray's. I currently have a Pi 2b running Kodi- I'm curious about the best way to use my collection- I have a USB DVD/Blu-Ray drive that can be powered by a wall wart. I could also rip and playback the files in Kodi. I'd rather not have to buy another NAS. Can the ...

How to tell if a pump is running?

I need some ideas for a project- I have a submersible sump pump, and I want to monitor it. I have a depth sensor, which consists of one of those ultrasonic distance sensors mounted in a PVC pipe installed vertically into the sump pit, but I'd like to expand the project to be able to tell when the pu...

Home Security System

I have a daughter who is autistic and prone to wandering. I'd like to set up a security system that uses PIR sensors and cameras so that the cameras only take snapshots when the motion detector is tripped. Ideally, I'd like all cameras to take pictures every n seconds for x minutes if any motion det...

Re: Need help getting a TTS project off the ground

I'll admit I do have a few hidden agendas with this project- I have a Pi zero burning a hole in my pocket, I want to learn how to do this type of project, I like the idea of a minimal interface and how to create it, and I want to create an educational opportunity for my other kids too. I also want s...

Need help getting a TTS project off the ground

I am trying to make a simple TTS project. I have a Pi Zero and a mini keyboard. I was going to get a LED 16x2 or something similar as a display that would echo typed characters to the display then send them to a TTS engine and output through a speaker when the enter key is pressed on the keyboard. I...

MT32?

Just posted a comment on a blog about this and realized it might be better asked here.... Is anyone aware of a project that turns a pi zero into an actual MT32? I know Munt is an emulator, but what I am looking for is turning the zero into a MIDI synth from the 80's/90's, perhaps via USB or maybe GP...

Can the official 7" Raspberry Pi screen be used with the adafruit ultimate GPS https://learn.adafruit.com/adafruit-ultimate-gps-hat-for-raspberry-pi/external-antenna ? Waterproof case for Pi Zero?

I've been toying with an idea for a Rpi0 project, but I need a waterproof hard case for it- the project would require it to be wearable, waterproof, and shock resistant. I have an autistic daughter, and am considering a project to make a tracking bracelet that could be work on the wrist, ankle, or p...

Re: LED's for PiZero?

Thanks for the advice! So if I did go with Neopixels, this would drive them, right? I really like how the Adafruit page includes relevant links for those of us who are 'less-experienced'. If I read this right, the one 16-channel board will allow control of 16 PWM LED's, right?

Thanks again!

LED's for PiZero?

I'm planning a project that will require up to 8 LED's. All the LED's will have the same color and brightness, but I want the ability to change either. I initially thought Neopixels would be a good product to use, but the project is for a PiZero, and there seem to be a lot red and yellow flags when ...

Re: Pi Eating cards

One more thing it does that is weird- I have two different USB readers I can use- One of them powers off about 10 seconds after it tries to do anything with the card- if I fsck -v /dev/sdc then the power light on the read shuts off and the four drives it adds disappear. What I would like to know is ...

My first Raspberry Pi project is born out of necessity, and I've never attempted anything quite like this before. I'm currently in the planning phase. Re: Fan control?

It's been a while since I've done any electronics work- The base goes to 8, one of the others goes to the fan and the last to the positive pin (Doesn't matter which because the 8 pin acts as a gateway, right?)? Also, how do I choose a transistor? fan is 5v. Thanks for all your help!
