Re: USB boot now working on Pi3

Is there any update on this? Is USB boot ready to use without memory or wifi issues on Pi3's?

Re: portable media server usb drive or sd card?

I haven't got any figures to back this up but I'm sure a drive with a spinning platter and other moving parts in a usb enclosure will use a lot more power than a usb memory stick. You will probably struggle to find reliable figures because manufacturers sometimes change parts in the internals of usb...

Media shared from USB

Hi.. I have a number of Pi's running raspbmc in my house and they are all running beautifully. I stream my media (mostly SD MPEG4 and HD H264) from a windows 7 pc running hanewin nfs server. I am looking at removing this pc. I frequently have this pc streaming different files to 2 devices at the sam...

Re: Why is no XBMC distro working?

I was getting instability and rather than buying a multimeter to check the levels is was cheaper to to buy a new power supply. I got one from modmypi. Rock solid ever since..

Re: My Pi has gone flakey

I had similar issues and it turned out that the sdcard and socket were not making a snug connection. Either the socket had losened or the card had warped. Packing the edges between the back of the sdcard and the socket pushed the card into the socket more firmly and fixed the problem. Not ideal but ...

Yes both NTFS and FAT32 will work fine.

No I don't think a "Y" usb cable will help. You will probably need either a powered USB drive, or a powered USB hub.

Re: CAN WE DIRECTLY CONNECT WIFI MODULE WITH RASPBERRY PI?

If you are asking if you can add a USB wifi adaptor to your Pi then the answer is probably yes. It depends on which USB wifi adaptor you are talking about. See here...

How are you streaming from the server? windows shared folder? NFS?
What are you streaming over? Wifi? cabled Ethernet?
How big\what bitrate are these MKVs?

Re: How fast must my HDD transfer rate be to play HD movies?

That depends entirely on the bitrate of the video\audio that you are trying to stream. I seem to remember the Pi's USB ports will max out below 24Mbit/s so I think you are safe enough with that drive.

700mA is a bit tight particularly if you have anything connected by USB. I use a 1500mA.

Raspberry Pi has excellent hardware video scaling. Everything is upscaled to whatever the current video mode is.

Re: Boot a system from the OS on Raspberri Pi Board

Perhaps you can describe what this Net20 device does and how it is supposed to work. It seems to be for windows kernel debugging and doesn't allow any kind of booting from another device. I guess it talks to the windows kernel on the PC (when setup) and transmits debug info to a device that's listen...

Re: Video Play in Vertical

If you want a video to fill the whole screen with video using a portrait oriented screen then its going to be horribly distorted. Your best bet is keeping the correct aspect ratio. This would limit your video to 768x432 maximum effective resolution, but it would have the correct ratio.

Re: Boot a system from the OS on Raspberri Pi Board

The closest thing I can think of is network booting the PC off a Pi. This should work. The Pi would be running its own operating system and hosting a share containing the x86 boot files. The PC boots via PXE sent from the Pi.

Re: Boot a system from the OS on Raspberri Pi Board

Assuming that you can get the pc to "see" the file system on the sdcard via USB somehow (which I don't think is possible).. the PC wont be able to boot the same operating system as the Pi. The operating system on the Pi is based upon armhf architecture rather than x86 so what is bootable on one will...

Re: Boot a system from the OS on Raspberri Pi Board

You mean you want to connect a Pi to a pc and have it boot off the Pi's SD card? or You want to have a PC boot its own operating system when prompted to do so by a connected Pi? When you say "Rpi OS" what exactly do you mean? If you mean Linux (Raspbian) then this is (most likely) basically Debian L...

Re: 5.1 passthrough over TV without hdmi spliter

OK I think its fairly clear the TV is only capable of 2.0 over HDMI and otherwise it will give you the static. The amplifier should be working via optical though. Either there is a problem with the splitter or a problem with the amplifier. Do you have anything else that outputs an optical signal? Xb...

Re: 5.1 passthrough over TV without hdmi spliter

Could be either your splitter or your HT system. Do you know anyone with a HT system that has an optical input?? you could bring the Pi + splitter to them to test?

What happens if you connect the Pi directly to the tv and allow 5.1 passthrough.. do you get the same static?

Have you got a keyboard hooked up to it? If so in raspbmc you can just press escape when you are rebooting raspbmc (when the blue screen comes up.
