Re: Setting up HDMI output

As I said earlier, I was unhappy that this post was not suitable for Absolute Beginners. Rather than just complain, I got off my ass to improve it. I have rewritten the wiki page http://elinux.org/RPi_config.txt to be more suitable for beginners. It now includes instructions on how to edit the conf...

Re: RPi ignoring EDID detailed timing

All: While I still think that this is a silly limitation, I have solved by problem by utilizing the onboard I2C port and a custom cable to rewrite my EDID to be CEA conformant. It now works as expected. Thank God for vendors ignoring the EDID 1.3 EEPROM read-only specification ;) I think EDID CTS n...

Hi mabrowning,
Where do you get your EDID parser? Did you write it yourself? What platform does it run on?

Re: RPi ignoring EDID detailed timing

Hi, The detail timing format of 720p does not agree with any defined CEA 720p formats (the blanking periods are not correct). When I match a format, I compare not just the resolution, but also the blanking periods and pixel clock (to distinguish between different variants of 720p). I have noticed a ...

Re: No HDMI output Composite OK

If "turning off DDC" is what I think it is, it will make EDID unaccessible. If the monitor keeps hotplug high, you might be able to persuade the pi to output an explicit mode. You might also need to force hotplug to be high or the pi won't output anything.

Re: No HDMI output Composite OK

<t>Hi Simon,<br/> <br/> My code will only allow you to drive a mode if it finds it in the EDID. However, the EDID of the monitor does not list any valid 1920x1080 timing which is why you cannot get pi to output 1080p. There is a 1920x1080 timing in the EDID but the parameters are not correct. Re: No HDMI output Composite OK

We currently do not support deep colour. I think the pi is outputing YCbCr instead of RGB. I can check your EDID to see if your TV supports YCbCr. I will discuss with Dom to see if he can add an option for the user to choose YCbCr output if the TV supports it.

Re: No HDMI output Composite OK

@Nimdy,

According to the manual on LG's site, the native format of the TV is

1680 X 1050 @60 Hz. This is a computer monitor format, not a conventional TV format. Letting the pi choose the best resolution is your best bet.

Re: No HDMI output Composite OK

Hi Nimdy,

It's odd that tvservice shows no modes at all. I will take a look at the EDID tomorrow. Just a sanity check: if you remove hdmi_mode from config file (which will let me pick the best mode), does the pi output anything?

Can you send us the edid? Use tvservice -d to dump the EDID and post it online. I am working on a front end to my edid parsing code so one can parse the dumped edid directly.
