Re: PI seeing network???

That all looked good except that when accessing the network drive from Windows Explorer there is no username or password required so I left out the -o at the end and the password= stuff but got the reply: mount error (6):no such device or address I got the address from the 'attached devices' IP tabl...

PI seeing network???

Non-experienced user type question coming up. My Pi is hard-wired to a router that enables it to see the internet ok. There are many other things connected to the router, particularly a network hard drive and a USB hard drive that is connected to a PC that is connected to the router. How can I get t...

Re: internet access speed

First off this is not a moan about the Raspi which I love to bits and I know it's not meant to be a quad-core wizzo Cray lookalike or whatever, BUT if this is driven by a CPU that you might find in a smartphone then why is it so slow to load pages compared to a phone? Got the pi sat on a Netgear ro...

SHA checksum

Hi all from idiotland... downloaded Raspbian, unzipped, but checksum after running SHA is different to published one. Hmmm...do it all over again and bingo! - same checksum (different to published). Forged on anyway, all booted OK and for the FIRST time of running Midori went like a train (relative ...

USB stick

Whacked a few jpgs and a few .aac's onto a USB stick and popped it into the powered hub sat on the Pi to see what it made of them...Q1 - does the Pi 'autosense' an additional storage device being 'hot added' like Mr Gates software does? - the Pi did diddly squat. So tried a sudo reboot from the term...

Re: Icons on LXDE screen

Failure on all counts!! Drag & drop had no effect at all. And the one command line to enable the RP to see the network no effect either. Where would you go to on the RP to see the network bits? Which bit of the LXDE menu? Or is there a terminal entry which would indicate what the RP can see?

Icons on LXDE screen

Got the LXDE homescreen - it's completely empty. How do I add icons to it? Also, the RPi is sat on a network by virtue of being connected to the router to which is also connected a Windows7 PC and a so-called 'cloud' network drive. Can I "see" any of these things with the RPi - maybe to use the clou...

Re: Powered USB hub

Are all powered USB hubs the same? ie I bought one from PC world and it put it in between my keyboard and mouse and the PRi and... zilch (but green LED on the powered hub). Put the keyboard and mouse into RPi direct and no problems. Are USB hubs OS-sensitive (do I have to buy a "Linux" hub) or do I ...
