Re: The Pi's Chinese rival has arrived

This is probably more like Pi's Chinese rival: http://www.aliexpress.com/product-fm/532332455-Mele-A1000-TV-box-Allwinner-A10-hackable-device-wholesalers.html The Mele is a good bet if you don't mind the larger size and lack of built-in WiFi. In compensation it comes with a real SATA port, VGA and ...

Re: The Pi's Chinese rival has arrived

missing the point completely, as all posts about all supposed raspi killers and rivals do. the focus for the android and ubuntu communities is not specific to this device. the raspi is the exact opposite of this, the community has a common device upon which to build and fine tune, rather than the c...

Re: The Pi's Chinese rival has arrived

complete with none of the software support or community the pi has! ;) Have you missed the community behind Android or Ubuntu for devices like this? ;) and with the evil robot on it, is it completely open as far as picking and choosing distro's go? I think it should run at least Ubuntu, since that ...

The Pi's Chinese rival has arrived

http://www.cnx-software.com/wp-content/uploads/2012/05/allwinner_a10_android_4.0_mini_PC_MK802.jpg Main price is slightly more expensive at $74 BUT that includes shipping, case, built-in 802.1g WiFi, 4GB Flash and twice the RAM of the Pi (512MB). There's also a microSD for expansion. Also has HDMI ...

<r>Yes, players will need to support hardware acceleration, but most work is actually already done, just not enabled in the current RPi distributions.

VLC already has an OpenMAX (OMX) output module, although it doesn't appear to be enabled in the current Debian distribution.

Fo...

I've had these errors with all Class 6 cards I've tried.

Re: AirPlay

I don't think Airplay is very useful at this point, since we don't even have working, stable, audio output.

Re: SDHC? Or just SD?

<t>Take care with Class 6 cards, I've had tons of errors from both Sandisk (4Gb) and Verbatim (8Gb) Class 6 cards.

They appear to work well, but once in a while they'll timeout and fail, especially after heavy writes. Had filesystem corruption already because of this.

I'm back ...
