Change Wi-Fi to 5GHz

When I first installed Raspbian on a Pi 3 B+, I chose Wi-Fi frequency 2.4 GHz. I'd like to change it to 5 GHz without having to reinstall the whole OS. Is there a way to do that?

Thank you.

Re: "apt-get upgrade" broken

Have you tried dist-upgrade instead of upgrade? The differences are found here:

No inittab in new Raspberian

I just created an SD with the latest NOOBS (1.4.2) on it and am trying to set it up to start a getty on the serial terminals. Normally I'd edit /etc/inittab but there is no such file in the new system. How can I start gettys?

Re: "WiFi Config" icon is missing

Thanks so much, FTrevorGowen! Trying to run wpa_gui didn't work either. It also seemed a bit pointless since the system already says that I'm connected. It says that I'm connected, but I can't visit any websites with the browser. When that happens with a wireless connection, I've frequently found t...

Re: Can't use a new getty - Partial Success

Well, I got the Pi to start a getty on both ttyUSB0 and ttyUSB1 (added to the ttyAMA0 that always worked) The trouble is, I can only go as low as 300 baud on the USB ports. I'm using TrendNet TU-S9 USB-Serial converters (both 1.1 and 2.0 versions) Of course that baud rate make this useless for my pu...

Hmmm. I'll try it and see. If it works, I'll send you 50p and a pack of Rolos! :D

Re: Can't use a new getty

I don't know if this is relevant but I noticed the irq for ttyUSB0 is now 0. I tried to set it but got an error: [email protected] ~/basicfiles $ sudo setserial /dev/ttyUSB0 irq 85 Cannot set serial info: Inappropriate ioctl for device Might this ioctl have something to do with it? Would someone out t...

Re: Can't use a new getty

What type of Terminal are you using? Could you try it with the USB to Serial Port on a PC? Dave. Right now I'm using a PC running TeraTerm. It works fine on ttyAMA0 but not on ttyUSB0. I know ttyUSB0 is OK, since I disabled its getty and ran Minicom on the Pi. I got good two-way communication betwe...

Re: Can't use a new getty

I presume you rebooted after making the changes, or ran "sudo init q" which should force a re-read of the inittab file. Yes. I did reboot. As you can see by my first post, the getty *is* running on ttyUSB0 (as well as ttyAMA0) so I don't know why I can't get a prompt on ttyUSB0 but can on ttyAMA0. ...

Re: Can't use a new getty

Have a look at the "/etc/inittab" file. Down near the end, it gives examples of how to put a getty on a serial line for a terminal. The line of code which puts a terminal on the Pi's serial bus is also there: T0:23:respawn:/sbin/getty -L ttyAMA0 115200 vt100 Here is my line: T0:23:respawn:/sbin/get...

Can't use a new getty

I have a Pi2B and have a TTL to serial port converter hooked up to it. I can get a login prompt on ttyAMA0 with no problem. Now I'm trying to add a TrendNet USB to serial converter and have a terminal log in to that as well. The original getty still works but I get no response on ttyUSB0 although it...
