Re: USB 3G Dongle VS GPS Addon

Well What I am attempting is to make my own pet tracker. Using a Raspberry Pi, with a 3G usb and a powersource. Ill then be able to log into my web and look for said device plotted on the map. So I can search by pet name / device name. Yes this can be done...log your data from GPS into a web and us...

Re: USB 3G Dongle VS GPS Addon

Both GPS and 3G-Modem can come as a USB-device or as a "add-on" board that can talk "serial" or "spi" or "i2c". The simplest are usually a USB solution ( IMHO ). There also exists a few 3G-Modems that also contain a GPS. You are absolutely right topguy. Suggested just to use your PI as a web server...

Re: multixplexing with transistors

Hey, I'd like to control 2 7-segment displays. The electronic shop gave me an explanation and the stuff I need. I've made a scheme but I'm missing something (a connection to 5V pin?). It's probably too risky just testing it out... I got a ULN2003 controller and 2 different transistors(for each disp...

Re: Add USB power to speakers??

You need to power up your speaker i.e. audio amplifier with USB power i.e. 5VDC. There is only one limitations i.e. USB powered devices have very less current sourcing capabilities. If you are trying to power you amplifier module with USB power then you will only get few Watts of amplification i.e. ...

Re: L298N board vs. L293D board

How do I protect the Pi from being fried? Like this person did: https://www.raspberrypi.org/forums/viewtopic.php?f=37&t=135599 BTW, I went back to planning on using the L298N board, I think (due to size.) Could I use one of each effectively? Actually the current driving capabilities of PI2 GPIO pin...

Re: L298N board vs. L293D board

All Inductive loads are current hungry.....take a look at the current driving capabilities of the Motor Driver ICs and your requirement.....And at last do not ever forget to use a heat-sink for higher current applications................. ;) ;)

Re: cooling fan control: how to?

I have been using PI for so long and have also ran heavy stuffs...on it but never ever thought of using a Fan Module. This will unnecessary clutter your PI. If you are using the PI running too many applications then you can go for it, but using PI for development purpose may not require one... I hav...
