Python import network error [obsolete]

Hello, I am relatively new to Raspberry Pi and I was trying to set up a simple python chat between 2 raspberry pis using the code provided by the raspberry pi teaching website. This is the code for the chat. Also, here is a link to the specific page I am viewing. https://www.raspberrypi.org/learning...

Re: Long distance Pi to Pi communication

I would like to do it in the chat like method however. That way I would not have to run a program each time I want to initiate something on the other pi.

Re: Long distance Pi to Pi communication

I'm just looking to accomplish something like this over a very long distance. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=u6kuHMY5pHM

Would I need to enable port forwarding on the server end to do this? What does that do?

Re: Long distance Pi to Pi communication

In my case, my router is not necessarily private and is used by many, similar to hotel wifi in a sense. I don't think it is reasonable for me to enable port forwarding (not that I would know how to do that anyway). How can I work around this?

Re: Long distance Pi to Pi communication

What does the port forwarding do? What happens if I don't use port forwarding? How would I get my program to use port forwarding?

Re: Long distance Pi to Pi communication

I wish I understood what that meant. Would there be any possible issue if both Pis were connected directly to the main home router via ethernet, regardless of wether or not the Pis had different ISPs providing their internet?

Re: Long distance Pi to Pi communication

So essentially, as long as I do the same thing as in Lesson 2 with the correct IP addresses of my 2 Pis, I could the python server to light an LED on the other Pi regardless of distance, provided both Pis are connected to the internet? Also, you have been a great help. Thank you very much for your t...

Re: Long distance Pi to Pi communication

I get that there will be delays due to the internet, but for my purposes, they are negligible. So if you do not in fact need real time communication the other two parts of my reply should be helpful to you. Ok, I read all of the lessons that your link led me too and I also read up on Weaved IOT as ...

Long distance Pi to Pi communication

Hello. I am looking for a way to get 2 raspberry pis to communicate via internet over a long distance. (hundreds to thousands of miles). For the sake of simplicity, I will give a simplistic hypothetical example of what I am looking for. Let's say we have 2 Pis. One in one location, the other in a lo...
