Re: Raspberry Pi Zero W - Network / Ping loss

Did you find the cause of this? I'm finding similar issues, especially if I connect another WiFi dongle (Although this causes a reboot if powered up already). It will lose configuration due to something with wpa_supplicant, maybe ifplugd. Having a cronjob checking AP ping and running # wpa_cli -i wl...

Re: Pi not connecting to Internet

Just a guess but I've had similar problems and it boiled down to /etc/resolv.conf
Check the nameserver is correct (your internet routers IP) or add a google IP 8.8.8.8

Also try "sudo route" to see if the default entry is correct (Googling will help you set that up quickly)

Re: Use ethernet instead of wifi for Samba?

The answer should be in /etc/samba/smb.conf under #Networking
uncomment ;interfaces to read ...

Code: Select all

interfaces = eth0
Restart samba and it should only deliver content through eth0.

Re: Pi as a pos system

An RPi is more than capable of delivering web content, even at default settings. If you're capable of setting up Apache/MySQL/PHP and possibly Samba/FTP, then it will do all you require to get started. Storage can be increased with USB drives. I've used mine as a portable WiFi repeater, Apache/MySQL...

Re: [Tutorial] Using the RasPi as a WiFi hostspot (8 Nov 12)

Code: Select all

Line 10: unknown configuration item 'wpa_passphrase_key'
Line 12: invalid cipher 'TPIK'.
just a spelling mistake in the config. They should be TKIP and wpa_passphrase

"cat /var/lib/dhcp/dhclient.leases" will show connected devices. As for it not sharing internet just make sure you follow the tutorial correctly, especially enabling forwarding and setting up the firewall correctly. And try ping google from the routing device.

Re: [Tutorial] Using the RasPi as a WiFi hostspot (8 Nov 12)

I've been playing with hostapd and isc-dhcp-server to use the Pi as a WiFi router. After a LOT of experimenting I think I found the reason hostapd drops the IP address of wlan0 and that's because it reinitialises it. BUT if the device isn't up at boot it works OK; and this is just down to /etc/netwo...
