Hello Mike,

It is great to see you posting on the forums once again. Thank you very much for the MATE update, I will give it a try tonight when I get home from work. I hope that you are doing well yourself?

Re: MATE for Raspbian

Although this image is a little old you can still download from here: http://www.raspbian.org/PiscesMATEImages http://archive.raspbian.org/images/rpi_pisces_mate_r2.zip I am not sure that this would still be the best method for you to try MATE with Raspbian now. I can say that MATE is very good and ...

Re: MATE for Raspbian

Hello Mike, That is understandable, I know that Raspbian has taken a whole lot of your time. As you said the pieces are in place to create a new community focused image, although the best solution would be that the Raspberry Pi foundation move to create a desktop focused MATE release that would meet...

Re: MATE for Raspbian

Hello Mike! It is nice to see you back on the forum once again, I have to say that I haven't been on here as often due to a few personal reasons at home. So I take it that you are releasing an updated MATE +PISCES image? Could I make a small request regarding installing by default some of the applic...

Re: MATE for Raspbian

Hello all, I was just reading on the Mate web site that version 1.4 has been released on the 30th of July. It has a lot of new features that sound interesting. I was wondering if it would be possible that the new version could be compiled for Raspbian? I know this will probably be a couple of days c...

Re: MATE for Raspbian

@Franfurilo: I used the the MATE image that Mike produced last month, http://archive.raspbian.org/images/rpi_pisces_mate_r1.zip You could install MATE on the LXDE foundation image that ASB posted too. You can also quite easily uninstall LXDE if you want to. You might want to try installing Plymouth ...

Re: MATE for Raspbian

I have to agree with Mike here, MATE does use more memory than LXDE does but you are getting so much more by using MATE. There is 12+ years of testing, bug tracking system integration that went in to GNOME 2. There are lots of useful scripts that can be added to Nautilus etc. The Gnome 2 themes will...

Re: MAME Distro

Good luck Benjamin, I think focusing solely on MAME for now is not a bad idea. The addition of console emulation can come about a little later. Please let us know how we can support your project. I would think that once the system is configured after first boot then ideally the menu system should be...

Re: MAME Distro

Hi Benjamin, That sounds like a brilliant idea! As the foundation have moved to Raspbian (Debian Hardfloat) for their official release it would make sense to base your release on this. A good foundation would probably be this: http://www.linuxsystems.it/2012/06/raspbian-wheezy-armhf-raspberry-pi-min...

Re: Any interest in a rapsbian mailing list?

Hi amp, If there is to be a mailing list I would like to see it focused on a list of given topics, if at all possible. At the moment here the forum is becoming a free for all with important postings being pushed further and further down the list due to to very high postings. It is good the forum is ...

When you know you've made it!Chromium for Pi linked:Engadget

Hello all, I just wanted to share something interesting here. I was just browsing engadget like you do and found this article: http://www.engadget.com/2012/07/19/chromium-browser-for-raspberry-pi-beta-available/ This really goes to show the effect that our community have had. The Raspbian project ha...

Re: Binaries for XBMC and Quake 3 (with sound!)

@robin48gx: I think there is just a small difference between the system you use to play Quake 3 on Ubuntu and the Pi. Your video card alone has 4X the RAM of the Pi. I would suggest you try some overclocking if that is your thing. Adama has some information that might help you in this forum thread.

Re: Instructions for building XBMC for Raspbian

Hi Silas, As you have fixed the black screen issue now with the new image released, one quick question, does the image still auto booot to xbmc or do we have to manually start it up. I feel that if we do have to launch it manually then we have taken a step back to plug and forget. Thanks for all you...

Re: packages you want to see in raspbian

I realise it is still a work in progress but a lot of people are interested in software such as this. The only issue might be the Doom trademark? Is there any where possibly dubious software can go that is not in the main repository?

Re: packages you want to see in raspbian

Hi Plugwash,

I think some more games would be great to have in Raspbian. Do you think that you could add this Doom rework, possibly in to a user contributed section?

Re: Instructions for building XBMC for Raspbian

That sounds great Silas, I would consider having the all wifi drivers there by default along with any remote control handsets that you can find drivers for if it is not too much work. Doing this you will be targeting the 'plugin and forget it' crowd. Oh and SAMBA support if not implemented would be ...

Re: GCC 4.7.1 in Raspbian

Hi Plugwash, Is that for testing purposes mainly compared to the ARMEL build of Wheezy? I know resources are tight and I understand 4.6 being there for Wheezy. But for Wheezy +1 is it an option to move to 4.7.1. I think the original poster is correct there does appear to be substantial gains by movi...
