Re: Raspbian Installer

nickg , check out the PM I sent you some days ago. In a nutshell: read this post , the only thing missing is cpio unpacking. I use midnight commander (package 'mc') for that since I am lazy to find out correct cli parameters. Just make sure that dev nodes were unpacked correctly from original initr...

Re: Installer

Hi, I'm trying to reinstall, but the latest installer (rpi_installer_08-19-12.zip) doesn't recognize my Logitech K400 keyboard (wireless). Since this is the only USB keyboard I have around I am forced to use the 06-18-12 installer. As far as I can tell the keyboard is only partially recognized, as ...

Re: Installer

Hello Rpi community. I am not a Raspberry Pi user, but I am using Raspbian on a APC. I am trying to build an installer for the APC, and you already made a big part of the job. So, could you provide me the source of your initrd in order to not start from scratch. Best regards, Clément Hi Clément, he...

Re: Installer

I have no idea why your keyboards do not work, but installer uses official kernel config - meaning your problem probably is not installer specific. Do your keyboards work when using official Raspbian image? In completely unrelated news I am out of town until next week - I'll examine reported problem...

Re: Installer

OK, first a temporary workaround: in your case just copy firmware files to fat partition, Raspbian should boot fine then.

- Do you use automatic partitioning offered by installer or do you have your own partitioning scheme?
- If using own scheme, do you mount fat partition as /rpiboot?

Re: Installer

Exactly! I started my initramfs experiments by following recipe on this page . I think that Raspbian installer could really use help from an experianced Debian developer. I am just a common Debian user and sometimes I lose a lot of time just by experimenting with stuff where more experienced person ...

Re: Installer on a different sd card.

After a little testing it turned out that swapping the sd card just before the partitioning phase worked just fine. It copied the absolute minimum of required files to the new card. This means that I don't have different start.elf:s for different memorysplits on it but if need be I can just downloa...

Re: Time for a new version of Raspbian?

I'm very glad that a new image has been posted on the Download page. Although, yes, I can just type in all the commands to keep updated, as I said it gets to be a very boring process waiting for the (increasingly large) updates when you're re-installing your SD card several times a day trying to ge...

Re: Installer

This installer seems very promising. Unfortunately, I couldn't use it as my wireless keyboard didn't work (the USB device seems to be recognized at startup, but nothing happens and I can't access any logs). So I wanted to modify the installer's sources, but I couldn't find any repo. Is a Github rep...

Re: Installer

jerry.tk, do you have links on the web that describe how to work with the install files that are inside the cpio file? In the future I would like to create an installer for the Via APC, but I haven't yet looked at what's involved with creating one. I was wondering what information you are using to ...

Re: Installer

You don't need initramfs.cpio.gz for installer to work. Just unpack the installer zip to FAT32 formatted SD card and you should be good to go. You would need initramfs.cpio only if you wanted to create your own version of Raspbian installer - for example enabling network console, creating unattended...

Re: Installer

When messing with /boot partition it happened to me quite a lot that FAT32 got corrupted even by simple stuff such as copying files even on current firmware. (BTW hopefully that sync will help.) Anyway, you can try to format this partition on Windows machine and get current bootfiles from here: RasP...

Re: Installer

Oh, sorry about that, I will reupload it tonight (CET). I will probably update that hostname, sync and memory split as well.

BTW: can somebody recommend a good multiupload server? multiupload.co.uk is redirecting to multiupload.nl and that one is not accessible for Mike and probably others as well.

This might take some time as I am not at my home computer right now. But you can unpack that file from initramfs.cpio also linked with the new installer version. amp , which installer version were you using? Judging by your mentioning rpi-update I guess 06-18-12? This one is a bit obsolete by now as there is a newer one submitted for Mike's approval. You can find a link a few posts earlier. It uses pretty current firmware and under normal circumstances you ...

Re: edit file sd image file to correct error

Actually it might be possible to do it on the Pi itself: Backup kernel.img on your card and replace it with kernel.img from Raspbian installer . Boot Pi and as soon as installer starts press Alt+F2 to get shell. (Alternatively you can do Shift+F5 and select shell from the menu). Mount your root part...

Re: Installer

Actually adding extra repositories seems to be well supported by debian installer/preseed.cfg and hopefully it will be possible to install firmware packages from there during install. I suspect there will be some problems with firmware package /boot partition magi...
