Re: CAN controller

Hi at all, I come back after quite a long period of absence, due to some family issues. First of all, congratulations to all the guys for the very big steps I saw in interfacing the Can Controller MCP2515: I'll need some time to follow all the discussion and to be able to put in practise all the ind...

Re: CAN controller

@gja
thanks for the hint, I tried to ask to the forum moderator and I'm waiting for an answer.

Re: CAN controller

In my opinion is correct to start with some simple tests, but having clear in mind any weakness of this initial approach and how to overcome them: since this project aims to be usefull to a wide spread of applications performance shall be taken in very high consideration. In order to do an additiona...

Re: CAN controller

I'm more worried about SW side than HW side. From what I know (but I'm still waiting for my Raspberry...) we could have at least two options from driver approach: a) SocketCan, which is generally supported in kernel 2.6 (also with MCP2515) b)Character driver I don't know too much about option a, but...

Re: CAN controller

Hi at all, I'm new on this thread. Actually I also follow a very similar Raspberry thread (CAN Interface), and so I'll try to split myself on both. I'd like to start with a design proposal: please feel free to comment and to improve/modify it. 1) HW Components for CAN - Controller: Microchip MCP2151...

Re: CAN Interface

From my side I'm still waiting for my Raspberry device: I hope to receive it before September so that I can have some spare time during the Holiday.

Re: CAN Interface

I had a look at Raspberry Pi OT 1V0 extension board and it seems really interesting. It's not cheap but it's really the dev.board we'd need for our purpose ! At this point the main problem (for me at least...) is to actual own the pi to install and check the CAN driver, since I've no idea when I'll ...

Re: CAN Interface

<t>The Mini Can board is, in my opinion, a good product because it allows to start the develoment phase with MCP2515 immediately and with an already debugged HW.<br/> <br/> Instead, the Can Node seems to be a product based on PIC uC: this requires to define on both side a protocol for exchanging dat...

Re: CAN Interface

<t>I agree with Mathias: the first point to analize is the SPI side.<br/> <br/> The driver for MCP2515 will be based on SPI communication, I figure out that the top half of the driver (the interrupt handler, which has to be lightweight and very fast) will give the acknowledge and will read the buffe...

<t>Hi at all, I'm a newbie in this forum and I'd like to share some comments about the very interesting Topic.<br/> <br/> To provide CAN interface to PI I'd also propose  the MCP2515 since:<br/> <br/> - I'ts cheap<br/> <br/> - Quite good performance, considering that is has two RX buffers (and relat...
