E-Reader Questions

In another of the long line of 'I want to build a raspberry pi tablet' topics... Questions geared towards 'I mainly want this to be something for e-book reading. Please note I intend on using a raspberry pi zero for this with potentially a micro usb hub that's 'solder on your own bits' to split the ...

Tiny tiny USB Keyboards?

I have found a usb hub that is more or less 'solder directly onto the leads' which works for a project I want to try out. However all the keyboards i have found for the size i want are the microsoft chatpad itself, or bluetooth keyboards. I want something that's thumbboard sized but at the same time...

Re: Can the Pi-0W be used as a Wifi/BLuetooth Dongle?

I've noticed my laptop's internal wifi card is going dodgey, and my desktop does not have bluetooth. (older hardware.) So I'm left wondering if I could use the pi-Zero to solve either issue by having it act as a 'blind' passthrough so whatever it's plugged into can go 'oh hey this is a wifi dongle/...

Pi Zero W: Is there a map of what all the test pads do?

I turn my pi over and see a bunch of unpopulated pads at the back of the unit and think 'hey could I get away with building a thing that connects via pogo pins and has gpio header pins slide through the gpio holes so I could slot a zero in, screw it down, then unscrew if it either breaks or a better...

Re: Help Wanted to Build a DiY Alphasmart

It'd be more like running notepad than word really and text editors in command line are a thing. The problem is picking one that is the least burdensome given the interface is going to be... tiny.

Re: Help Wanted to Build a DiY Alphasmart

Because I can? Because those units are eventually goign to wear down and information on how to make a workalike would probably be useful to somebody.

Help Wanted to Build a DiY Alphasmart

http://kadavy.net/blog/posts/portable-word-processor/ Alphasmart in any variety isn't being made anymore. The NaNoWriMo forums basically swear by the thing, it had amazing almost 'how did they do that' battery life, rugged, and unitask. I understand that connecting pi to a display and a keyboard wil...

[Pi-0W] Wanting to make a Wifi Adapter that's also an AP

I know the Pi Zero can act as a device you plug into computer via USB and the computer goes 'Oh this is a USB device.' The idea for what i want has two parts to it: Ideally there would be a slide/switch and either a super capacitor or other way to mantain power for a graceful shutdown if the user de...

What kind of ventelation is needed for a wood case?

I have a router, drills, and chisels for squaring drilled holes. The thing that keeps me from actualy making a case is the fact I'm not sure if a wooden clamshel would give enough heat dissipation or not. Yes I know theoretically the Pi will be fine, but I'd rather double check before drawing anythi...

Re: Setting up an 'all in one' wiki/static pages/forum quest

Piratebox is where I originally got the idea. Thing is all it does is a filedump with maybe a shoutcast box. As for the all in one wordpress thing. Looks nice but I want more than just a self hosted blog. That seems to be the main thing. Everything I want t odo has been done. IT's the 'doing everyth...

Setting up an 'all in one' wiki/static pages/forum questions

Note: When I say 'raspberry pi' I mean the Raspberry Pi 2. Hardware. The big idea I have is 'take raspberry pi, put it in a weatherproof case, attach it to batteries and solar cells, and have it have two wifi things: one to connect to the internet, the other for people to connect to. ' I actually k...
